Let’s get two things straight, Michael Wheeler was an absolute idiot. William Byers was also an idiot.
Tensions were high, between everyone, but especially the two boys, Will and Mike. I mean, obviously it was a little awkward between the two, there was unresolved tension there for years. The main problem was both Will and Mikes inability to put their feelings into words and express them with ease.
Besides, there wasn’t quite enough time to unpack everything that had happened within the last three years. They had other things on their hands, like saving the world (again) from some stupid unexplainable force that’s actually just some kid with some mommy and daddy issues, and other psychological problems.
Mikes mind was still stuck on the painting, he was replaying the speech Will gave about El’s love for him. This was really ironic adding the fact that Mike had just been dumped by El about, I don’t know, maybe like five minutes ago. Mike Wheeler had just gotten dumped and he couldn’t keep Wills words off his mind. It was hard to not think about it, Will hand made this beautiful work of art for Mike, which was commissioned by his amazing (ex) girlfriend, what more can he ask for!?
A lot.
Mike was starting to have his doubts about the words said in the van. But, Will wouldn’t lie to Mike, right? The words seemed so sincere, Mike never felt so wanted before that moment.
