Chapter Text
Bucky's exam was finally wrapping up. It went as well as he could've hoped for, although he could've done without the judgemental glances at his protruding belly and soft limbs. It occurred to him, though, that Dr. Romanov was really taking her time getting back, leaving him sitting awkwardly on the exam table and trying to hold the sides of his gown as close together as possible.
He still felt squirmy and embarrassed from earlier, when the cute medical assistant Steve had done an EKG on him and struggled to reach over his gut to clip on the wires. He could practically still feel Steve's warm hand on his soft love handle as he stretched over him. He was bigger than the average guy, obviously, but he must've been twice that kid's size - and maybe age, too. Steve was short, all lanky limbs and smooth skin. He hadn't reacted visibly the whole time, even as Bucky probably looked like a land whale on the exam table, though, so it beat Dr. Romanov. He was sure his face was tomato red when she tsked, a measuring tape wrapped around his waist with almost no room left.
Bucky finally heard a knock at the door and said, "come in!"
Steve entered first carrying a tray with a syringe, alcohol wipe, and gauze on it. Steve set it down, gave him a quick kiss on the forehead, and murmured in Bucky's ear, "just like we talked about."
If Bucky was nervous before, it was nothing compared to now. But even his nerves couldn't make him less excited. He schooled his face into a neutral position as Steve made himself unobtrusive behind the exam table and Natasha came back in.
"Mr. Rogers, you'll be free to go in a moment but I noticed that you're due for a tetanus booster. Is it alright to administer one?" Dr. Romanov asked, Russian accent thicker than usual for the impressively realistic role. This was his chance to back out.
"Sure doc, that's fine," Bucky responded.
Steve took a deep breath and walked over. He gave Bucky the shot in his arm and was sure to be quick so would have his arms free to slowly lower him down, he would only take a moment to be out cold. Soon, the real fun would begin.
