Work Text:

it was beginning to rain down on inkopolis, it was gentle and soft rain earlier when it started but it progressed into heavier rain.

aloha was sitting on a wooden bench, starting to feel the pain of the cold rain. he didn't have an umbrella on him so he'd have to use his hands to cover his head. he started to stroll back to his place, only focused on the pathway because he didn't have the time to look around. he quickened his pace, the jacket he was wearing was flowing in the heavy wind.

aloha started to run since the rain was stinging him, he whimpered in pain. "o-ow.." his light jacket slipped off of him while he was running and it only took him a couple of seconds to realize. it was raining too hard for him to look back and try to find it so he left it.

army was walking around in the rain, he had to go to makomart for weekly groceries. army could hear the rain smack his jet black umbrella. army passed by a white jacket while strolling and since he wasn't in a rush he decided to inspect it.

it seemed to be aloha's jacket with some type of square outline in one of the pockets. he picked it up so that he could bring the jacket back to aloha when he could. army bent over and took the jacket, gripping it tight so it wouldn't fall from his grasp despite the chance being rare. army could feel the tiny splashes of the rain hitting the ground touch his foot so army stood back up and started to walk again.

soon army made it to makomart, the jacket still gripped tightly in his hands. he seemed so determined to not drop the jacket, army didn't even know why he held it like that. army stepped into makomart, checking his phone for the grocery list and started his shopping.

while army was shopping in makomart, he realized something was hanging out of the left pocket, it fell out before army got the chance to slide it back in. when he started to pick it up he realized it was a phone, aloha's phone with a small crack possibly from being dropped. army picked it up, it was on a good battery percentage and it was unlocked.

aloha's phone was on the spotify app, showing aloha's playlists. there was a party playlist, a personal playlist and most of the playlists were different music artists, but there was one playlist that stood out to him the most. it was named songs that remind me of army.<3

before he did anything else, he started to walk. it looked kind of weird that army stood there, looking extremely invested into the phone. while he looked, he used his finger to tap the playlist and was taken to a list of songs.

the playlist had heart to heart, mr loverman, looking out for you and some other songs army recognized. he was surprised aloha had a playlist based around him, army could feel a small smile form on his face, it made him feel some sort of happy that aloha had a playlist centered around army.

army placed the phone back in the pocket as he had seen enough and decided he should probably return the phone. aloha is most likely panicking crazily worrying about his phone. army knew where aloha lived so it wouldn't be a hard task finding aloha.

time passed as he shopped in makomart, army soon came out of the market still holding the jacket. the rain had become lighter when he walked out, it wouldn't be a bad idea to find aloha.

army deployed his umbrella and started his journey, even if it was raining softly, he didn't want to be damp. he only had on a light jacket to protect him from the chilly breezes that the rain brought.

army made it to aloha's place and knocked twice. there was no response so he knocked once more and there wasn't any sound.

"he must be busy..." army muttered but he didn't want to keep aloha's phone or stress aloha about this so he knocked a final time. army could hear thumping come from the inside of the house while standing at the door.

"hold on, i'm coming!" army could hear aloha's voice from the inside. army waited patiently for aloha. army shifted his weight while standing at the door in front of him. then the door opened to aloha who looked like he had just woke up from a 6 hour nap.

"oh hey curry boy..you need something?" aloha asked, twirling one of his tentacles hanging out while leaning on the doorframe. aloha's face had a small hint of pink on it, army couldn't tell why it did though.

"i found this...it was on the ground when i was walking." army said, handing aloha the white jacket. aloha took a moment and gazed at it before army also handed him the phone.

"it cracked?" aloha asked, seeming a bit surprised, "mhm, must be from impact." army answered, aloha's face had a small frown appear on it before it went back to a neutral expression.

"i saw the playlist.. you have good music taste." army added, army toyed with his fingers while aloha stared at him before understanding what army meant.

"oh..i..thanks." aloha responded, his face was slightly heated from embarrassment. aloha took the phone back and smiled at army, attempting to hide his embarrassment.

"well thanks..i was looking for this thing forever.." aloha turned on his phone and noticed it was on low battery, "carp..i'll have to charge this later. once again, thank you army." army smiled, "oh it's nothing, besides your phone is probably important anyway." army responded. aloha seemed to be hesitant about something for a minute.

aloha embraced the other, it was a simple hug but for army it felt special to him in a weird way. army wrapped his hands around the other to return the hug.

aloha hadn't let go for a minute when suddenly it hit him that this probably felt a little weird to the other so he broke the hug and chuckled softly, this was awkward and unlike him, why was he being this way around army.

aloha walked back inside and closed the door, waving softly as he did so. leaving army outside to decide on his next move.

army stood there, having a small faint smile hit his face. "that felt good.." army muttered under his breath after starting to head back to his apartment. the rain had entirely cleared up but the roads were damp and trees still dripped water from its leaves. army had no reason to deploy his umbrella once again so he just admired his current surroundings.
