It had been days, and the WxS crew still couldn't decide on which play to perform. Their upcoming show was scheduled to begin in 3 weeks, and everyone was getting antsy.
Even Emu was getting a bit worried, which further confirmed that the situation was beginning to get desperate.
Every time there was a suggestion, a problem came up. Whether it was too long, too short, too childish, too mature. Nothing really seemed to fit the group properly!
But they couldn’t just go with any play, this upcoming event was special, as the amount of guests coming booked out the seats! No one in the group wanted to give a mediocre show and disappoint their audience!
Emu flopped down on a worn, dusty chair in the prop room with a pout and puffy cheeks, bouncing her leg anxiously. Tsukasa and Rui were bickering about some invention of the latter’s and how safe it was a few meters away. The only one actually focusing on the predicament was Nene. She decided to browse though an online reading site to find more ideas.
“Hmmm… not this one…. This one seems dumb…. Another cliché… Too many actors needed- Ah, this one might work….”
She mumbled to herself, skimming through the descriptions of the “theatre” category in the site.
This play had just enough actors needed, and around the right word count for it to be a reasonable size. And the reviews were outstanding, many commenters complimenting the music. She quickly decided that this play would be a possible candidate.
“Hey, everyone. I have an idea for a play for us to act, do you guys want to read the script? I can send it to you guys, and then you can tell me what you think. I haven’t read the whole thing yet, so we can do that now.”
She said quietly, but firm enough to get the others to perk up.
“Wonderhoyyy! I knew you could find a good play Nene! You’re the bestest ever!!” Emu exclaimed, doing the wonderhoy motion with her hands. She kicked her legs forward and flapped her hands out of excitement.
Nene blushed and looked away out of the praise and energy of the other girl. Her excitement was basically blinding over any little thing that happened.
“Uh, don’t worry about it…” she muttered, with rosy cheeks and averted eyes.
Nene copy-pasted the script of the play into the group chat made for WxS to discuss practice. The other member’s phones all went ‘ding!’ and everyone went to check the new message.
Nene, Rui, and Tsukasa were methodically studying the play, putting time into studying every word. They wanted to see which parts would fit them the best, and what ideas of their own that they could incorporate. Rui already had countless ideas of what crazy dangerous thing to make Tsukasa do, smirking as he thought up new things he could invent.
Of course, Emu was less serious and tried to skim over it as fast as she could to find the funny parts.
“Eheeeheheeeee~.”
She giggled to herself quietly, reading one of the last pages very intently. There was a new focus she didn’t posses for any of the other pages.
The others payed her nothing but a questioning glance, and after a few minutes, Nene asked,
“How does it look so far?”
Tsukasa responded with a grin,
“Aha! Good find, Nene! It would be perfect for a star like me to play the part of the prince! May I?”
“Alright. That sound good to you guys?”
Rui nodded, and Emu tried not to burst out laughing.
“What’s so funny?!?” Tsukasa yelled at her, thinking she might believe it was an unfit role for him. How very rude!
“You’ll see, teeheehee!”
Everyone shrugged it off as her being hyper again.
“I was thinking, would it be ok if I was the fairy? She doesn’t have a lot of lines, but there’s a dancing part that might be fun…”
“Of course~ I think it would be a good role for you. I shall appoint it as your director. I’ll plug in Robo-Nene’s lines this evening, and then she can be the narrator! ” Rui responds eagerly.
Nene nods her head in thanks and turns over to Emu, who’s looking like she’d burst if she didn’t get her turn to speak soon.
“Can I pleaaase be the knight? The knight gets a big mega sword and goes SWOOSH SWISH! And I want to wear fancy shiny twinkle-twinkle armor too!!!!”
“I don’t think you’ll take no for an answer. Rui, are you fine with being the traveler?” Nene said, chuckling a little at Emu’s strange way of words.
“Sure!~ I was considering that role anyway.”
Tsukasa is already making “princely” poses for practice. Nene rolls her eyes at him and proceeds to check the time, it has to be getting late.
“It’s evening guys. How about we finish reading the script at home?”
The other three agree, and they wave goodbye and begin to walk home after a long meeting.
Overjoyed with his role, Tsukasa has his nose in his phone, reading the play eagerly on his walk back. He was so engrossed he nearly walked into a few signs. Suddenly, he realizes why Emu was giggling so much.
“This is a ROMANCE PLAY?!”
