BTS: When You're Dealing With Insomnia

Work Text:

The house was unusually quiet as you walked into the small living room of your and Jin's shared apartment. It was 3:00 in the morning and all of Seoul was silent. The only sound that could be heard was the sound of the wind flowing through the trees.

Tonight was night four of no sleep and it was starting to show. Insomnia wasn't something that you dealt with often, but when you did, it seemed to hit you like a freight train. You were sure that Jin had a slight inkling of what was going on, but he had yet to say anything about it. You had been so used to dealing with the insomnia, that there were moments you forgot to mention it to Jin.

Standing next to the window, you were lost in the beauty of the night. Seoul was beautiful and had immediately captured your heart whenever you stepped off of the plane. Your plan was to just stay for a month, getting to know the city and seeing all the popular sights, but fast forward two years, and you were still here, and with a boyfriend nonetheless.

For a brief moment, you closed your eyes, letting out a deep sigh, praying for sleep. Your body was beyond exhausted, but your mind refused to shut down. There were a million things that needed to be done, and yet there were never enough hours in the day to do them.

It wasn't until you felt a pair of arms wrap around your waist, that you realized that you weren't alone anymore. Normally, you would just lay in bed, staring out the window or playing on your phone, but tonight your body was too restless. You kept tossing and turning in your shared bed and eventually decided that it was best to get up. Jin had a crazy busy week and had constantly been on the go and needed his sleep.

"Are you alright, jagiya?" Jin questioned, placing a tender kiss on your temple. "I woke up and you weren't there."

"I'm alright." You smiled tiredly. "It's just one of those nights again..."

"Again? How long has it been going on?"

"Four nights." You sighed, laying your head back against Jin's chest.

"Jagi..." Jin replied quietly as he gently turned you around to face him. "Why didn't you say something to me about this earlier?" He wasn't upset with you, but concerned. He hated seeing you like this more than anything in the world.

"Because I honestly never thought it'd last four nights...I've tried everything, babe, and nothing is working."

"I've got an idea." Jin smiled as he brought you over to the couch, pulling you in between his legs, as he wrapped you both up in a light blanket. "Close your eyes and relax." Jin whispered, placing a soft kiss on the top of your head.

You did as Jin said and gradually felt your body slowly unwind. You wanted badly to believe that this would work, but you were unsure and didn't want to get your hopes up too high.

Just as you were about to give up hope, Jin's soft, angelic voice filled the apartment, bringing a calmness over your body that you hadn't felt in ages. As he sang Epiphany, your body began to relax, slowly melting into him. For the first time in four nights, your mind was finally at ease.

Long before Jin began singing the last chorus, you had peacefully fallen asleep, clinging on to Jin while he continued singing to you.

"Ugh...I just want to sleep..." You growled in frustration as you finally got out of the bed, raking your fingers through your hair. This was the third night of no sleep and you were beyond tired of it.

Namjoon had been aware of your insomnia, but because of his hectic schedule and the many trips that he had been on, couldn't be there like he wanted to be. He had texted you words of encouragement and songs to listen to that were supposed to help with insomnia, but none of it was working.

As you walked into the living room, your eyes looked up at the clock hanging in the living room, next to one of Namjoon's favorite paintings. 2:00 a.m. Tonight is never going to end. You sighed, not knowing what else to do. You weren't hungry, you weren't thirsty, and you didn't feel like watching anything on TV. I guess I could go for a walk. Going for a walk at this hour, may have not been the greatest thing to do, but you were running out of options.

Heading towards the foyer, you took your lightweight jacket off of the hook, and put it on over your matching purple night shirt and shorts, before slipping on some sandals. The night air was crisp, sending small shivers down your body, but it felt nice. The city was quiet and peaceful as you made your way down the sidewalk, enjoying your time alone. This part of town was normally busy during the day, but was now filled with silence.

It didn't take long for you to reach the park, a few blocks away from your and Namjoon's house. You and Namjoon went here quite often with Rapmon or to just go along the walking trail, admiring nature. The only source of light was coming from the bright moonlight overhead. Pulling your jacket closer to you, you decided to head down the long, winding path that led into a small wooded area. The moonlight hitting the tree leaves, created a soft glow that was beautiful beyond words. But, as you went to reach for your cellphone, you realized that you had accidentally left it home. Shrugging your shoulders, you continued to walk along the path, feeling your body ever so slowly unwind.

Forty-five minutes later, you had finally come full circle on the walking trail and decided that it was best to head home. Your body felt more relaxed and at ease now, which made you feel better. The temperature must have dropped a few degrees, because it now felt cooler as you made your way back home. The wind had also seemed to pick up some speed, making you wish that had changed into leggings.

You were so wrapped up in your thoughts, that you didn't even see Namjoon's car in the driveway as you rounded the corner, walking down the driveway. It wasn't until you nearly passed his car, that the front door flew wide open, with Namjoon standing there, looking as if he had seen a ghost. Before your brain could process what was going on, Namjoon ran up to you at full speed, holding you as tightly as possible.

"Jagiya, where were you? And why are you out walking the streets this late at night?" Namjoon asked, finally pulling back just enough to look at you and make sure that you were alright. His eyes were glassy with fear and relief as he did his best to fight back tears.

"I couldn't sleep and so I decided to go for a walk." You replied in a small voice, feeling guilty for causing Namjoon to worry that much over you. "I didn't know what else to do. I had done everything else and nothing was working."

"Babe, don't do that to me again." Namjoon answered, still refusing to let you go. "I thought something terrible had happened and when I saw that you had left your phone on the bed, I almost called the police."

"I'm so sorry, love." You responded as you hugged Namjoon back, just as tightly. "I didn't mean to worry you, I promise. But, I also wasn't expecting you to come home tonight either."

"The managers told us that after today, we get two weeks of down time. But, regardless if I'm home or not, please don't go wandering off like that again. You scared me to death. If you can't sleep, wake me up. If I'm not home, text me or call me, but don't do this again...or if you do, take me with you. I don't want you out there alone."

"I promise, Namjoon. I won't do this again."

Namjoon pulled you in and placed a loving kiss against your lips, sending tiny shivers down your spine. The kiss was slow and filled with many different feelings that you couldn't quite identify at the moment. Namjoon's fingers soon became tangled in your hair, bringing you in even closer.

"Let's get you out of the cool weather and inside where it's warm." Namjoon smiled against your lips, before kissing you one last time.

"That sounds like a wonderful idea."

No matter how many times you tried to get comfortable, nothing was working. Your mind was going a million miles an hour, reminding you of everything that needed to be done that day. For three nights, insomnia had been kicking your butt, and it was beginning to show in your choreography. You weren't able to keep the rhythm and beat like you normally were.

Letting out a deep sigh, you rolled onto your back, staring up at the ceiling. You didn't feel like playing on your cellphone and you didn't necessarily want to get up and watch anything on TV, but at the same time, you didn't want to disturb Hobi.

Hobi had been practicing non-stop for a new upcoming music video and had come home beyond exhausted. He needed to be at his very best, and that wasn't going to happen if he was up all night with you. Hobi had always told you to wake him up if your insomnia ever got too bad, but you just didn't have it in you to wake him up. He looked so peaceful.

"Yeobo, is everything alright?" Hobi aksed, now awake and looking at you with concern.

"Yes, I'm just having trouble sleeping. I'll be alright." You smiled softly, feeling bad for having woken him up. "Go ahead and go back to sleep. I'm sorry for waking you, babe."

"Don't be." Hobi replied, wrapping his arms around you as he pulled you in for a soft, warm kiss. "Would you like to go watch something?"

"Not really, I want to stay in bed, but I don't want my tossing and turning to keep you up either." You slightly frowned.

"Would you like for me to make you some hot tea? That always helps me when I can't sleep."

"Are you sure? You don't have to if-"

But Hobi cut you off with another kiss, this one with a hint of more passion.

"I want to." Hobi simply answered. "How many nights have you had trouble sleeping?"

"Three nights, but tonight has been the worst. My body is beyond exhausted, but my mind won't shut down."

"I'm sorry, jagiya." Hobi replied, placing another kiss on your temple. "Would you like to come with me?"

"Sure." You grinned, getting up from the bed and following Hobi into the kitchen. "How's the music video going?"

"It's going great." Hobi answered as he began working on the hot tea. "We've got ninety percent of the choreography done and then have to work on the filming part."

"Sounds like fun. Are any of the dance moves hard?"

"There were a few that were pretty difficult, but we worked through it." Hobi chuckled. "What about you?"

"The choreography isn't too hard, but I really like it. This dance may be my favorite." You smiled. You were a backup dancer and filled in for whoever you needed to, regardless of the group.

"Good, maybe one day you'll go solo." Hobi smiled, turning to face you, taking your hand in his.

"I don't know about that." You chuckled. "That takes a lot of guts that I don't have right now."

"I'm sure one day, you'll find the courage to do it, Y/n. I already know it's in there, inside of your heart, we've just got to dig for it."

"Hmm...maybe one day."

A few minutes later, the tea was finished brewing and Hobi carefully poured the both of you a small cup.

"There you are, my love." Hobi smiled, handing you your cup.

"Thank you very much." You grinned, taking a small sip of the tea, keeping in mind that it was scolding hot. "Mmm...this is so good."

"Thank you, jagi." Hobi grinned, taking a small sip of his. "Would you like some sugar?"

"No thank you, it's perfect the way it is."

"Wonderful, let's go sit on the couch and relax." Hobi said, taking your hand in his and leading you into the living room. "The city is so beautiful at night."

"I agree." You smiled, leaning your body against his, listening to the sound of his beating heart. "I've never seen the city so quiet before."

"Well, it is 2:00 in the morning." Hobi joked, running his hand along your arm.

"You've got a point there." You laughed. "This tea is amazing. I don't know how you do it, but everytime you make it, I swear it gets better. You'll have to share your secret with me one day."

"Well, if I told you how I make it, it wouldn't be a secret." Hobi winked, making you laugh again.

"I'll get it out of you, one day." You chuckled.

"Maybe." Hobi smiled, leaning down to kiss you again. "I love you, jagiya."

"I love you too, Hobi." You answered, feeling your body gradually begin to unwind.

It was well passed 1:00 a.m. and your body still showed no signs of wanting to go to sleep. Placing your phone back down on the night stand, you got up from the bed, and let out a deep, tired sigh. Yoongi had been working hard finishing up his new, upcoming album, so he had yet to make it to bed.

You always slept better next to Yoongi, but at the same time, you didn't want to bother him. The deadline was fastly approaching and he still had quite a bit of work to do. Yoongi knew that these past two nights had been hard and he felt bad for not being there, but the album needed to be worked on.

Walking out of the bedroom and towards Yoongi's home studio, a small wave of guilt washed over you. Even though you had been dating for almost three years now, the idea of bothering him still made you worry. Yoongi was a hard working man and didn't like to be disturbed, especially when it was something as important as this.

Without realizing it, you soon found yourself turning the doorknob to his studio, and walking in. The smell of sandalwood and sage, mixed with leftover ramyeon, filled the room, bringing a smile to your face. Music filled the room, letting you know that Yoongi was still hard at work.

"Jagi?" Yoongi questioned, almost catching you off guard. "What are you doing up at this hour?"

"I couldn't sleep." You answered in a small voice. "I just wanted to make sure that you were alright and see if you needed anything."

"No, I'm alright, jagiya." Yoongi smiled, before turning back to the computer screen for a moment.

"Alright , I'll let you get back to your work then." You grinned, turning to leave.

But, before you could take two steps, Yoongi called out your name, stopping you, just as your fingers brushed up against the doorknob.

"Jagiya, wait." Yoongi said, motioning for you to walk over to him. Yoongi couldn't help but smile as he noticed you wearing one of his baggy t shirts. He loved it when you wore his clothes. "Don't leave just yet." Yoongi whispered, placing his hand over your arm.

"But, you're busy..."

"Never too busy for you." Yoongi answered as he gently brought you down onto his lap. Yoongi cupped your face in his hands and kissed you deeply. The many hours of not being with you was starting to show. Oh, how he had missed you.

"Yoongi..." You softly moaned against his lips, feeling your heart flutter as his hands glided along the side of your body, which were now under your shirt.

"Yes, yeobo?" Yoongi asked, his fingers now making tiny, intricate patterns along your skin.

"Will you please hold me?" You questioned, looking deep into his eyes. "I always sleep better with you and not having you next to me at night has been hard."

"I know, love, and I'm sorry. I've let my work get ahead of you again. Please forgive me..."

"Yoongi, you've done nothing wrong. This album is important."

"Yes, but nowhere near as important as you are, nae sarang." Yoongi replied, leaning in to kiss you again. "And yes, I will hold you for as long as you need me to, jagiya."

"Thank you." You smiled, laying your head down on Yoongi's shoulder, breathing in his cologne. "I've missed this...I've missed you..."

"I know, yeobo..." Yoongi replied, rubbing his hand along your back. "I you have anything to do tomorrow?"

"No, my schedule is empty. Why?"

"Good, because I'm going to spend the whole day with you." Yoongi grinned, making your heart melt.

"But what about the album?"

"The album doesn't have to be finished until the end of the week and I've got ninety-seven percent of it already done. And like I said, you are far more important, Y/n."

"Thank you." You whispered, sitting up to kiss Yoongi ever so gently, placing your hand on his cheek. "I love you."

"Nado saranghae." Yoongi answered as he slowly deepened the kiss.

Five days, of little, to no sleep and you felt like you were running on fumes. No amount or coffee or energy drinks were working at this point. Insomnia rarely came to you, but when it did, it hit you full force.

Jimin had been away in Chicago, so he hadn't been able to help you through this like he normally did. The last FaceTime that the both of you had done, had nearly shattered his heart. He could plainly see that you were exhausted and didn't know what else to do. His heart was absolutely crushed. But, on the plus side, he would be coming home in the next day or two, so that lifted your spirits.

Since sleep wasn't coming tonight, you decided to reorganize the apartment that you and Jimin were living in. It wasn't the best time to be doing this, but it gave you something to do. Lifting the coffee table up, you carried it closer to the couch, which you had now moved up against the window. Now, your next plan was to move the two chairs to where the couch had once been.

Your body was tired and aching, but it was better than tossing and turning in your bed. You would probably regret all this moving in the morning, but none of that mattered right now. Wiping the sweat from your brow, you let out a deep sigh and looked at the room, feeling happy. You like the arrangement and knew that Jimin would too. Now, onto that big plant. You said, walking over to the corner of the room.

Just as you went to pick it up, the font door opened, and in walked Jimin, taken back by your rearranging the whole apartment. What caught him by surprise even more, was seeing you try to lift and move the heavy plant by yourself. It had taken three movers to bring it in, so there was no way you'd be able to do it alone.

"Jagi, what are you doing?" Jimin questioned with concern. "You can't lift that by yourself, you'll get hurt."

Jimin soon removed your hands from the heavy, terracotta pot and looked deep into your eyes. It was then he could see the pure exhaustion running through your veins. He hated seeing you like this and hated knowing that he hadn't been there to help you.

"I was just rearranging the living room." You answered tiredly. "I've done most of the house already, but-"

"No more, jagi...not tonight." Jimin answered calmly, placing his hand on your cheek. "Tonight you need to rest."

"I've tried, babe...but my mind keeps racing. I also thought you weren't supposed to be home for another two days?"

"I wasn't, but when I saw how exhausted you were on our last FaceTime, I told my manager that I needed to come home early."

"Jimin, you didn't have to do that..."

"I know, but I wanted to." Jimin smiled as he leaned into kiss you. The kiss was unhurried, yet passionate as Jimin pulled your body up against his. He had missed you terribly while he had been away. It was one of the small downfalls of his job.

Because of the exhaustion that the both of you felt, neither of you felt like taking this any further. Jimin continued to hold you close, his left hand placed at the small of your back, wanting to keep you as close as possible.

"I missed you." Jimin said, his lips hovering over yours.

"I missed you, too." You answered, kissing him once again. "I'm glad that you're home."

"So am I." Jimin pulled back, just enough, and smiled at you, feeling his heart beat with joy. "Would you like to dance?"

"But, there's no music." You replied, not exactly sure where this was going.

"We don't need music, nae sarang." Jimin chuckled as he wrapped his arms around your waist, gently swaying you side to side.

Soon, the sound of him humming Serendipity, filled the room, making you smile. It was one of your favorite songs and Jimin knew that.

"Thank you, babe..." You answered after a few minutes.

"Anything for you." Jimin replied, knowing that sleep was just around the corner.

"Babe, are you okay?" Taehyung asked again, over the phone screen. Taehyung had to go on a business trip to New York, which means that he wouldn't be home for another three days. The past two nights had been hard and long, as you were dealing with insomnia.

"Yeah, I'm just really tired." You answered, fighting back a yawn. "I haven't gotten much sleep in some time, but I'll be alright. How's New York?"

"Beautiful, but it'd be better if you were here." Taehyung replied with a small smile. "Is there anything that I can do to help?"

"I don't know, sweetie. I feel like I've done everything at least three times..." You raked your fingers through your hair, letting out a deep sigh. "There's no need to worry too much, because you'll be home in three days." You smiled. "Then you can help me as much as you need to."

"I wish I was there right now, jagiya. I don't like seeing you like this. It breaks my heart..."

"Don't beat yourself up, Tae. This won't last forever, it never does."

"I know, but still...I wish I was there with you."

"Soon, babe, soon." You smiled, taking a small drink of your hot tea. "The guys come by when they can to keep me company. Yesterday, Jungkook took me to a small amusement park."

"Oh, how'd that go?" Taehyung grinned.

"It went really well. I got you something." You winked.

"Oh, tell me more."

"I can't, it's a surprise, but I'm sure you'll love it."

"Not as much as I love you." Taehyung smiled, making your heart flutter.

"Tae, I know this may sound silly, but will you sing me to sleep?" You asked, letting out a deep yawn.

"Do you think it will help?"

"I don't know. It can't hurt."

Soon, Taehyung's voice came over the phone speaker, bringing a smile to your face. Taehyung's voice was calm and comforting, making your body immediately relax with each word. Placing your cup of hot tea down on the night stand, you laid down on your pillow, letting out a soft sigh, imagining Taehyung laying next to you in bed as he sang to you.

"I love your voice..." You whispered, your eyelids now getting heavy.

Taehyung had just finished the second chorus, when he noticed that you were sound asleep, still holding onto your phone.

"Goodnight, my love. Saranghae." Taehyung whispered, not quite ready to hang up yet.

Letting out a deep moan, Jungkook stretched his tired body, feeling the tension from working out leave his body. He hadn't been working out like he should have been and his body was letting him know.

As he rolled over onto his side, he couldn't help but frown as he noticed that you weren't there. You hadn't been sleeping well the last two nights, and Jungkook didn't like that. It broke Jungkook's heart to see you battle insomnia, knowing that there wasn't much that he could do to help.

Slowly getting out of bed, Jungkook made his way into the living room, where he soon found you in the kitchen baking what seemed to be cookies. Jungkook couldn't help but giggle as he watched you mix the cookie dough together, while humming an unknown song.

"There you are." Jungkook smiled, walking up behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist. "I woke up and you weren't there. How long have you been up?"

"About an hour and a half." You answered, turning to face him.

"Why didn't you wake me up, yeobo?" Jungkook questioned as he placed his hand on your cheek.

"Because you've had a crazy, busy week and need your rest."

That much was true. Jungkook and the rest of the guys were preparing for an upcoming tour that would be taking place within the next three months and it had been non-stop going since day one.

"I know that, but you need your rest too, jagiya." Jungkook said, kissing your nose. "You can't do your work as a dancer if you're exhausted."

You were one of the many dancers that rotated performing with BTS when they were on tour. It was a job that you hadn't been looking for, but two years later, you had absolutely fallen in love with it.

"I know, babe...I just can't get my mind to shut down. My body is exhausted, but I can't seem to get everything else to shut down."

"What can I do to help?"

"I don't know...sing to me? Maybe we can go on a walk together? Or some late night gym training?"

"Or we could watch a movie while the cookies bake?" Jungkook suggested.

"Yeah, I like that idea much better." You smiled, making Jungkook chuckle.

"You're so cute." Jungkook grinned, leaning in to kiss you tenderly. "What do you want to watch?"

"Anything, I'm not picky."

"Okay, you put the cookies in the oven and I'll find us something to watch."

"Sounds like a plan." You winked as Jungkook headed into the living room to find something to watch.

After placing the cookies in the oven, you walked into the living room and sat down on the couch next to Jungkook. Jungkook wrapped his arm around you and held you close to him, loving the smell of your perfume.

"Comfortable?" Jungkook asked as the movie began to play.

"Very. The cookies should be done in thirty minutes."

"Sounds good to me." Jungkook replied, kissing the top of your head.

Fifteen minutes into the movie, Jungkook noticed that your body had gotten rather still and that you had become quiet. Glancing over to his side, Jungkook saw you curled up in a ball, sound asleep. Jungkook smiled as you slept so peacefully, knowing how badly you needed it.

Jungkook would stay up long enough to make sure that the cookies didn't burn and then carry you back to bed.

"Saranghae, jagiya." Jungkook whispered, kissing the top of your head. "Sleep well."
