Chapter Text
Patience, everything required patience. That's what Kel had been taught his whole life. Well... that's what he was taught after the incident happened. He was always told by people older than him that it was necessary to give people time when it came to grief and loss, and he respected that. He didn't want to rush anybody nor make people mad or sadder than they already were, so he filled his time with new friends, activities, and memories. As he was continuing his life like nothing was wrong, he was secretly hoping that all five of them will get back together someday.
Yet anybody's patience can run out at some point. He has been waiting. Waiting, and waiting. Waiting for any sign of happiness. Yet people kept distancing so much. He couldn't hold onto anybody. He first lost Aubrey in this whole mess. She became so unpredictable and angry, it was... exhausting to keep trying so hard to keep contact. Basil stayed with Kel for a bit longer than Aubrey, but he slowly started losing himself. He became so spaced out and dissociated from everything you could barely have a coherent conversation with him at some point. It was... painful to watch his friends lose themselves slowly over time. Sometimes he felt like he was the only person that got stuck in time. That couldn't move on. That remained the same. Kel didn't even want to think about how his brother was destroyed by the incident. It was... too painful to remember. Too agonizing.
But Kel had one last hope. In these 4 years of waiting, he had been knocking on Sunny's door every now and then. He had hope that his best friend would open up to him again. That he will get out of that house again. That they will hang out like old times again. And that's what he's been hoping for a long time.
But today was different. While he was taking a short walk to Sunny's house he noticed something different. He noticed the "Moving Soon" sign that made him stop in his tracks.
...
What...
That... can't be right, can it? Sunny... Sunny wouldn't leave him just like that, would he? Sunny had always been so kind and caring to everybody. Sunny would always annouce when somebody was missing from the group or didn't feel ok. Sunny was the greatest friend that he ever had.
...so then why? Why would he leave him? Why would he leave everybody without even saying one last goodbye? That... that didn't seem right. Kel had always been so pacient. He always gave people time.
But today... his patience finally ran out.
He slowly approaced the front door of the house. There it was. The door that had been separating him from Sunny for so long. Remaining closed. Never to be opened again. But before Kel could even say anything, he noticed the door was... slightly opened? That's odd. The door was always closed, but today was the first time in forever that he saw the door opened. Without much hesitation, he walked through the door.
The house... wasn't like he remembered it to be. Everything was packed up or not even there. His favorite memories that belonged to this house were slowly getting erased every passing day. It was... a sad sight to look at. Somehow the house looked even more rundown than it looked like when it was more... lived. But enough looking at the surroundings, he needed to check up on Sunny. He would explain to him why he was in his house without his permission after they will meet.
After he got to the bottom of the stairs, he started to feel... some kind of pressure around him. Something... looking at him. At the top of the stairs was a figure. It wasn't a human figure for sure, but it was calling him. Somehow the creature's eye showed much regret. How could an inanimate creature show such a powerful expression?
Kel somehow knew that it was showing him the way. He slowly started climbing the staircase. Every step carrying more grief than he had ever felt in these 4 years. It felt like the death of Mari was finally settling in right then and there. But Kel didn't have time for that. He didn't want to look so miserable when meeting Sunny. So he pushed that emotion in the back of his head... again. He would do it again and again till he finds the happiness that he's been searching for.
After reaching the top of the staircase, Kel headed straight for the bedroom. He stopped in front of the door. He felt... scared. Almost petrified. He didn't understand why he was feeling this way. He was going to reunite with his old best friend... so then why...?
Why was he so scared to see what was behind this door? He didn't want to associate such negative emotions to a beloved friend.
After preparing himself mentally for what he was going to see behind this door, he walked in the room.
His eyes widened. All of the air in his lungs flew out as soon as he saw it. Sunny. Sunny was-
His legs gave out. He fell on the floor hard, gripping his chest for air. For anything to come out of his throat. But he soon realized that he already gave everything he got. He screamed as soon as he saw it. The only sounds that were coming out of him were muffled whimpers and whispers. His tears were flowing out like somebody had just opened the faucet to his emotions. Emotions that have been pushed away for way too long.
He couldn't have. He couldn't. Sunny couldn't have-
Kel passed out.
Sirens could be faintly heard in the background of the scene. It wouldn't be long until hell would start again. And this time Kel wouldn't be so forgiving. This time, he would finally show his true feeling about the situation. He was going to be much harsher than before.
And he was finally going to be true to himself
