Runaways of the Night

Summary:

One moment, the flashing disco lights lit up the room, almost blinding whoever stared for long.

The next, it was pitch black, and screams accompanied the dark.

He knows his only objective by now;

Survive.

Chapter 1: Neon Lights

Summary:

Looking back, he wishes neither he nor his friends ever went.

Chapter Text

He never liked discos.

They were too loud for him.

What he never knew, however, was how much he'd hate this one.

It was a disco to never forget.

Slumped in one of the many seats around the edge of the huge room, Herb sighs.

He didn't want to be there. He wanted to be at home, with nobody but his plants for company.

It was just a shame that Sparkling was so good at convincing him to go along.

He wondered why he decided to go in the first place.

"Hey! Herb! Cmon!"

His head perks up, and he sees Sparkling looking at him, a cheerful grin on his face, with their friends, Mint Choco and Vampire, in tow.

Putting on a smile, he forces himself out of the seat with minor difficulty, and walks over.

"What's up?" Herb asks.

Unlike his friends, with Mint being calm and Vampire just drunkenly stumbling around like usual, Sparkling seems excited.

"You haven't heard? The one and only Parfait is performing for us tonight! And, did I mention that she's starting in..." he pauses, pulling up his sleeve to reveal his watch. "Two minutes! We'd better gather around quickly, before she gets swarmed!"

The group nod (with the exception of Vampire, but he's already stumbling over) and dash to get even a glimpse of the famous pop star.

Herb's surprised. Having any other pop star perform for you is unusual enough, but Parfait? Tell him any other day, and he wouldn't have believed you.

By the time they arrive, the crowd of hundreds are already surrounding the stage. Luckily, they still see her. She looks no different to whenever she's on the television.

Her voice was sweet, but also held a rowdyness only she could tame. It was utterly mesmerising.

Yet, something is off. Herb thinks he sees a shadow behind the curtain for a split second, but just as sudden as it appears, its gone. Not mentioning the feeling someone is watching. And not in the sense they're innocently watching the performance from behind.

He's got to lightly slap Sparkling on the face to get him to listen.

"Oh, uh, yea?" he mumbles. He's clearly amazed by the performance.

"Sparks, something's off here. I don't know what, I can just feel it. We should get out of here before anything happens."

"It'll be fine! Besides, discos are pretty safe, ri-"

As if on cue, the lights instantly shut off, plunging the room in darkness. Angered muttering is audible among the audience, who seem to file out one by one, until just a few remain.

"Now, now! There's nothing to worry about! The lights will return shortly!" The pop star calls, but the worry in her tone can be heard.

A few seconds of silence.

And then, the piercing scream of agony, before the deathly silence returns.

More screams, likely from fear, erupt.

And unbeknownst to the rest, a figure stares. They scream like the others, but in truth they know the horrible act they just committed.
