Chapter Text
Alex had a problem. They hadn’t done anything truly villainous in a while. This wouldn’t necessarily be a problem, Alex was the most powerful supervillain supposedly ever. Thus they could do, or not do, whatever they wanted whenever they wanted. However, people were starting to notice that Alex wasn't being very villainous lately. And people (well, person) was starting to ask questions.
“Hey how come you haven’t like, tried to end the whole universe in a little bit?” Morgan asked, half-fiddling with a beat up aerial drone, half watching Saturday morning cartoons.
Morgan had decided that their newest scheme would be intercepting Amazon air deliveries. They spent each afternoon up on the roof, shooting Amazon drones out of the sky with a nerf gun, and then reprogrammed them to deliver solely to the shitty two-bedroom apartment Morgan and Alex shared. The solidly D-tier villainous plan was already starting to yield some interesting results. Various orders of romance novels, instant soups, fancy perfumes, and two large bags of cat food, littered the outskirts of their living room.
Alex handed Morgan a fresh cup of coffee, which they took gratefully, chugging it all down in one gulp despite the still scalding temperature. Alex’s eyes widened slightly in concern, but they decided to let it go. Since learning that Morgan’s preferred drink was red bull mixed with three shots of espresso (and attempting, unsuccessfully, to change this), Alex had made a solemn vow to never again interfere with Morgan's beverage consumption. If there was anything in this universe that Alex could possibly be afraid of, it was getting between Morgan and a dose of caffeine.
“No reason,” Alex said, which of course immediately piqued Morgan’s interest. Morgan’s head tilted a little to one side, and they stopped screwing the final panel into the drone in their lap. Shit, Alex should’ve said something boring, or tried changing the subject. If Morgan thought that they were hiding something, the nosy bastard wouldn’t stop until they found out what it was. Alex cleared their throat loudly, slamming themselves down onto the couch next to Morgan in what they hoped was a casual manner. “I just, uh, you know TV’s gotten really good lately and I uh… yeah I’m just doing that. Just got distracted, I guess. Pfttt villainy, right?”
Alex glanced sideways at Morgan, worried they had already given the game away.
Ugh, this was so weird. Alex had stopped doing all of the normal S-tier villainous stuff so much because they just enjoyed spending down time with Morgan, or helping them out with their elaborate heists. Alex’s growing fondness for the other villain was already worrying, but if Morgan ever knew how pathetically dependent on them Alex was becoming. Well, the S-tier villain might just die of embarrassment. And wouldn’t the heroes of the world rejoice at that.
One of Morgan’s eyebrows twitched slightly, and Alex inwardly cringed. That was their I’m-about-to-guess-something-you’re-not-telling-me face. They made that face just before figuring out how much Alex abhorred civilian casualties in their battles against A-list heroes. Morgan tugged the ends of their grey knit cap down over their protruding ears, and pulled their leather fingerless gloves a little higher up their wrists. They had the best hands; weathered and callused all over with strong, wide fingers. Alex bet that they’d feel all rough and textured against their skin, even with the lightest touch. Not that Alex would ever think about such things, no thank you. They had enough of a problem hiding their sappy, over-eager platonic love from Morgan without worrying about… other things that they were most definitely not interested in exploring. Nope.
“So who is it?” Morgan asked eventually, picking up the coffee mug again, and then putting it back down when they realised it was empty, “the person that you’re dating?”
