Work Text:

The day was spent like any other, completing goblin quests with his party and getting scolded by High-elf archer about his brutal and destructive tactics. Only this time, they made a mistake. The party left an opening and a particularly pesky goblin took it, hitting Goblin Slayer in the head with a stolen axe. The attack coincidentally landed in a damaged part of the helmet and got itself wedged in the side, looking like a Halloween prop. Of course, the goblin was killed immediately after and Goblin Slayer continued fighting. After the rest of the goblins were finished off, the group picked up the surviving hostages and made a move to leave. However before Goblin Slayer could leave the dingy room they were in, Priestess let out a cry, making him momentarily panic and turn back while reaching for a throwing knife.

“Sir Goblin Slayer!! Your head!!” She cried, staring wide-eyed at the axe that was still in his helmet. The rest of the party stared at him in shock (or anger in High-elf archer’s case) that they hadn't noticed before and he hasn't mentioned getting injured.

“Orcbolg why didn’t you tell us you got hit! Are you okay?!” came the angry tone of High-elf Archer over the chorus of ‘Goblin Slayer!’ and ‘Are you hurt?’ coming from the other three.

“It didn't get through my helmet but it is stuck.” GS said calmly, tilting his head slightly.

Dwarf Shaman who was also carrying a hostage, kicked High-elf Archer in the shin in order to get her to stop yelling at Goblin Slayer spoke up, “Perhaps if someone else tried pulling on Beardcutter’s new head accessory it will come out? Priestess why don't you give it a try”

“R-Right!”

As she approached Goblin Slayer, he crouched down a bit so the short girl could reach the axe. She pulled with all her might, but the axe was very much stuck as Goblin Slayer had said. “Huh I really thought that would work…” The bearded man said, disappointed.

“Although the axe sir Goblin Slayer is wearing seems problematic, perhaps we should first take the hostages to safety?” Lizard Priest suggested with a shrug, causing the girl on his back to wince. The group nodded and continued out of the cave and made their way towards the village where they dropped off the girls and said goodbye to the villagers who were crying and/or thanking them.

------------------------------------------------------------

They made it to the guild before anyone mentioned the axe again, this time it was Guild Girl who let out a worried cry as soon as they walked in. “G-Goblin Slayer--!!”
This caused any adventurers who weren't already staring to look over and see the commotion.

Goblin Slayer, with his outstanding people skills, said nothing.

Priestess quickly tried to reassure her, “UM!! Please do not worry Miss Guild Girl! He isn't harmed, it's just-- well..”

“It’s stuck” finished High-elf Archer with a sigh.

There was a moment of silence before Spearman, who had been among the adventurers watching from the sidelines burst into laughter, which led others to join in, including the other receptionist and Dwarf Shaman. The rest of the guild hall then turned back to what they were doing before the disruption and the party approached the counter to make their reports, High-elf Archer and Dwarf Shaman arguing about who got more kills as Guild Girl eyed the axe warily.

After finishing, Witch and Spearman approached them, Spearmen still giggling lightly looking at the man in beat up armor. “How….will you...get….it out” Witch spoke in between puffs of smoke.

“I have tools at the farm,” GS responded.

“In your shed?” priestess questioned him while tilting her head like a puppy. ((A/N: i love her so much i just want to give her a big hug))
He nodded, the axe handle swinging slightly with his head causing Spearman to bark out another fit of laughter. The group chatted a bit more before Goblin Slayer excused himself and left for the farm.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Farm Girl greeted him as he did his routine checks of the fences and walls. He told her of his plan to get the axe out of his helmet when he noticed her staring at it with a worried look. She let out a relieved sigh and continued asking about his day and the quest.

Her uncle, who had just gotten back from dropping off something in the village, stared at Goblin Slayer for a bit. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but just sighed and walked away muttering something that sounded like “too tired for this shit”. Farm Girl smiled sheepishly and left to make dinner. (Her uncle made GS take off the helmet this time as the axe was distracting)

-------------------------------------------------------------

He was sitting in his shed, helmet in hand. He had finally managed to get the axe out but going goblin hunting with the helmet in this condition would be unwise.
‘I guess I could take a day to restock and get my gear repaired,’ he thought to himself, looking at the shelves filled with materials, jars, and books lining the walls of the shed. He took off the remaining armor and prepared it in a bag to take to the blacksmith in the morning. He spent the rest of the night taking stock and making a list of things he needs to get. He usually tried not to write things down--in order to prevent any goblins from getting ahold of valuable information--but the shopping list wouldn't be of any use even if they did manage to get their grubby little hands on it.

------------------------------------------------------------

It felt wrong.

Everything was too bright and he couldn't stop feeling that he was in danger. Usually when his armor needed repairs, it was only the body that needed to be mended so he kept the helmet. As he walked into the guild, no one took notice of him like they did when he had his gear on. Even Guild Girl didn't recognise him. He made his way over to the blacksmith and set down the bag of armor and a pouch of coins. When the Blacksmith saw him he chuckled, “well now, there's a face I don't see too often! We haven't been too busy lately, I’ll have it done by tomorrow.”

Goblin Slayer nodded silently and left to complete the rest of his errands. On the way out, he spotted Spearman and Witch coming towards the guild. Witch noticed him and gave a friendly nod, which he mirrored. He continued on his way and heard Spearman, “Huh I feel like I’ve met him before… Hey Witch, you know that guy?”

“I..might....have...an idea...of--” she started, but Goblin Slayer was too far to hear the rest of the sentence. It isn't something he needed to hear anyways, so he returned his focus to his current task, ignoring the anxiety that had been eating at him since he took off his armor.

--------------------------------------------------------------

“Huh I feel like I’ve met him before… Hey Witch, you know that guy?”
They had been headed to the guild for another one of their “dates” (although they call them dates, they had established a while ago that they shouldn't get involved with each other like that as it could affect their performance during quests) when they passed a handsome silver haired man who Witch seemed to know.

“I..might….have...an idea...of who...that...is” she said with a knowing smile.

He quickly turned so they were facing each other, “Who was it? Do I know him? I feel like I'd remember someone with such pretty eyes” he said with a frown.

Witch laughed quietly, noticing that he didn't realize he just called Goblin Slayer’s eyes “pretty”. He looked at her, confused at what's funny. As they walked to the guild he tried to remember where he’d met the--as he said before--pretty man.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Taking a day off had been a good idea. His armor was repaired and he restocked his shed. He even managed to make some more tear bombs and sharpen his throwing knives. He hadn't slept much while waiting for his armor to be repaired, but he used that time to put things away and organize.

He had just finished putting on most of his armor, when the door burst open to reveal Spearman, out of breath. His frantic eyes quickly searched the room before landing on Goblin Slayer; they widened slightly before he shook his head and spoke with a determined look.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

[20 minutes earlier]

It had been a chaotic day in the guild, more so than usual. Spearman walked in and was immediately interrupted by Guild Girl.

“Sir Spearman! We need your help!!” she said with a stressed look. Hearing her say she needs him would have been great if it hadn't been so worrying.

“What’s wrong? Is it an emergency quest?” he can fantasize about Guild Girl later, the job comes first. Usually the guild only asks for help like this when it's an emergency.

“There's an emergency quest but it's for goblins so I don't think people will take it seriously...I’d ask Goblin Slayer but I can't leave the guild and his party is out on another quest” she said looking down sadly. How dare he make Guild Girl sad!!

“Don’t worry fair maiden, I’ll get that goblin obsessed weirdo over here and we can deal with them together!” he said with a cocky smile before rushing off in the direction of the farm as fast as he could.

Spearman got to the farm and knocked on the door maybe a bit more aggressively than he needed to. An unfamiliar man opened the door and looked at him with tired eyes. He seemed to look him up and down before pointing towards a shed across the field.

Assuming the man could tell who he was looking for, Spearman ran to the shed and burst through the door while panting. He saw the handsome man from a few days before and holy shit he looked great in armor but why was he--
Wait
He couldn't be--?
Spearman shook his head. He can question his sexuality later, right now there's a group of goblins somewhere that need to be dealt with.

“I need help,” Spearman said

“Is it goblins?”

“I wouldn't be here otherwise” ‘unless you asked me to be’ spearman thought ‘wait No. Professional time. I can't be thinking about how red Goblin Slayer’s eyes are or how hot he is without that beat up helmet or how it would feel to run my fingers through his silvery hair-- no no no no no stop it not now brain.’ he cursed himself and looked to Goblin Slayer who had gathered the rest of his things and--to Spearman’s dismay--put the helmet on. They both rushed back to the guild and listened to Guild Girl explain the situation.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The battle was hard. Similar to the one at the farm but luckily for them, a lot less organized on the goblin side and much smaller. They were with another group of adventurers who didn't want to listen to Goblin Slayer which made things harder but Witch was there and helped convince them to cooperate. As much as Spearman didn't like listening to other people, he knew that Goblin Slayer knows what he is doing. So he will entrust this to him.

Spearman had gotten a bit beat up by some of the bigger ones but he would be okay. He did see Goblin Slayer take a pretty nasty hit though so he made his way over to check on him. It wasn't that he liked him or anything, it would just be irresponsible to let him go off without treating his wounds! ((it's not like I like you or anything b-baka!! Im so sorry XD))

He found Goblin Slayer sitting on his own looking through his bag. He must be checking his supplies.

“Hey man, I saw you take a pretty hard hit. You okay?” Spearman said, trying to downplay how worried he was. He knows that if left on his own, Goblin Slayer would work himself to exhaustion before even considering taking a break.

“I’m fine. It isn't that bad.” he said in that same monotone voice of his.

“As if I’d believe you just because you said so. What would Priestess say if she were here?” Spearman said with a smile. This made Goblin Slayer pause. “Exactly. Lets get that pretty face of yours fixed up and then celebrate our victory at the guild! No ditching got it?!”

Goblin Slayer froze, but recovered quickly after, “I see.”

------------------------------------------------------------------

Spearman said that they would be having dinner at the guild to celebrate their victory, but considering how often there are these “victory celebrations” it seems it is more of an excuse to drink. Goblin Slayer did not partake in the drinking portion of this celebration as it would leave him vulnerable but he did eat with the rest of the adventurers.

Spearman, who had been drinking quite a bit, was currently glaring at Goblin Slayer. ‘It appears Witch has gone home…’ Goblin Slayer thought to himself before Spearman laid a hand on top of Goblin Slayer’s helmet, pulling him out of his thoughts.

“Whhy are you so perfect??” Spearman slurred, still glaring at Goblin Slayer.

“I don’t understand your question” he responded calmly.

“Why are you so perfect?!?” He repeated, this time louder.

“I’m not perfect”

“Yes you are!! Stop lying!!”

“I don't see why you think I’m perfect Spearman,”

“You are super perfect!! EVERY girl likes you but you aren't a dick about it. And you're also like, super hot but you're not overconfident. And you also are a good person and every girl likes you!!” Spearman now had his own head resting on Goblin Slayer’s shoulder.

“You said that twice..” It seems like Spearman should be done for the night. Goblin Slayer Paid for his own meal, and helped Spearman up. One of the other adventurers had mentioned paying for Spearman's portion earlier so he just led him up to the rooms that are in the guild.

“I’d tell you to take off your helmet but then even more people would fall for you….it's seriously unfair to be that pretty…” Spearman rambled while they went up the stairs.

‘He must be really drunk to be spouting such nonsense’ Goblin Slayer thought to himself ‘It’s not like he means it anyways. He won't even remember half of this by the morning’

They made it to an unoccupied room and Goblin Slayer led Spearman to sit on the bed. “You should drink some water and get some sleep, Spearman.” Goblin Slayer said quietly.

“SEE! Even now you are perfect!! Bro If you didn't have that helmet on I could kiss you” Spearman said while flopping back on the bed. He said it so casually it was as if saying things like that was completely normal.

This statement however, was not normal to say in Goblin Slayer’s opinion and although he wasn't one to question other people’s lifestyles he did wonder how one could say that so easily.

While Goblin Slayer was thinking, Spearman had fallen asleep. Noticing this, Goblin Slayer shifts Spearman as best he can and removes his armor and boots to make it a bit more comfortable for him. While setting the Armor down by the nightstand, Goblin Slayer sees a blanket folded neatly on a shelf. He spreads it out over Spearman before turning down the lantern. In the dim light Spearman's features looked peaceful. He could see a strand of hair that had fallen out of place and onto the sleeping warrior’s face. Gently, as to not wake him, Goblin Slayer swept the strand back in place. His hand lingered for a moment before he pulled it back. ‘I should go’ he thought, and he turned away.

“Sleep well, Spearman.” he spoke softly before leaving and closing the door behind him. He then paid for the room for the night. With that settled he headed back to the farm.

----------------------------------------------------------

Spearman woke with a groan as his head reminded him not to go overboard with drinking. He surveyed his surroundings to find he was in one of the guild rooms. His boots and armor lay on the ground next to the bed and there was a blanket thrown over him.
‘How the hell did I take off my armor last night?? I can't remember a thing except that dream about him.’

‘Wait that was a dream right?? It had to have been. No way THE Goblin Slayer would be that soft with someone like me’ he thought with a humorless laugh.

There was a knock on the door before Not Guild Girl™ came in. (it's the other guild girl but not like, Guild Girl y'know?)

“Good Morning Sir! Please Leave!” She said with a smile as she rushed him to get his things and leave.

‘Well, whatever happened last night, seems like it was a good celebration.’ Now it’s time to get back to fighting awesome monsters and going on cool adventures with Witch. Goblin Slayer’s party should be coming back soon and they will do more goblin quests. Unless High-elf Archer finally manages to convince that stubborn guy to go on a “real adventure” as she calls it.

‘Until then, things will be the same as always. Definitely not going to question why I dreamt of Goblin Slayer or anything related to him being super handsome under that helmet he always wears’

‘Not at all. Nope. that's not what is happening’

‘Right?’
