Chapter Text
“You alright, dude?” Kirishima asked when Kaminari walked into the classroom moments before the bell was due to ring. “You look really pale.”
“I’m fine,” the blond managed to get out before they were being ushered to their seats by the ever-energetic Iida. He took his seat and rested his head heavily on his arms, and there he stayed all during class.
When lunch rolled around, Ashido squinted at him suspiciously. “Are you sure you’re feeling okay? You look kind of out of it.”
He shrugged her off. “I’m fine. Just a bit tired.”
With curious and concerned glances, they made their way to lunch. The group of friends chattered on about class and the usual nonsensical things. Except for two. Kaminari picked at his food, only eating a few bites before pushing it aside.
And Bakugou who watched this with growing suspicions, keeping silent for the moment.
The afternoon came with practical hero training. They were separated into teams of four. The point was to make it past the opposing team and rescue the civilian dummies from a building. Bakugou, Kirishima, Kaminari, and Sero were the first team up for attacking while Midoirya, Uraraka, Sero, and Iida were defending.
A few minutes of planning beforehand, and then they were charging in by blasting a section of the wall off the building, trying to catch the other team by surprise. It seemed to work initially. Sero was able to get to the dummies while the other three distracted the ‘villains.’
But then Iida was rocketing back towards him. Kaminari attempted to throw a disc, but a flash of green in the corner of his eye caught his attention. The blond barely managed to throw himself back before Midoriya could tackle him to the ground.
For a moment, Kaminari thought he was fine. And then his head was swimming, and he couldn’t catch his balance to stop himself from moving back. His foot stepped back into thin air and the next thing he knew was he was falling.
Someone called his name. And then something firm and warm crashed into him. He felt arms wrapping around him, familiar and yet not. The fall suddenly felt more controlled and then it was over and he was safe, warm and cradled in his rescuer’s arms.
And then Kaminari passed out.
Kaminari slowly came to, finding himself in the nurse’s office. “What--?” he asked trying to sit up. His body felt heavy and sore and halfway he gave up, falling back onto the pillow with a huff.
“Kaminari!” Kirishima’s face suddenly entered his field of vision. “Dude, you scared the shit out of us! Why didn’t you tell us you weren’t feeling well?”
“What happened?” he rasped out.
“You fell off the building and then passed out.” Kirishima helped him sit up, arranging the pillows for him to lean against. “Shit, dude, that was scary to watch.”
The blond took the glass of water Kirishima handed him from the bedside table, taking a moment to try and remember what happened. “Yeah, I bet. Good thing Midoriya caught me, huh?”
Kirishima blinked at him, tilting his head. “Midoriya didn’t catch you?”
“Really? I remember someone did. And he was closest…”
“I mean, he was going for it, but Bakugou came flying out of nowhere and caught you. It was close though.” Kirishima swallowed thickly, looking into the distance. “Geez, even training's getting dangerous.”
“Wouldn’t be so fuckin’ dangerous if people didn’t try to do it when they’re fuckin’ sick.” The two looked up, finding Bakugou leaning against the doorway, arms crossed and red eyes glaring.
He had changed into a tight-fitting tank top and Kaminari felt his cheeks growing warm as his eyes glided over the exposed arms and chest. Wish I could have stayed awake longer to actually appreciate it, he thought, before squishing the thought down.
“Hey, Bakubro,” he said, trying to smile as cheerily as he could. “Thanks for the save.”
Bakugou clicked his tongue, turning away. “Get some fuckin’ rest, dumbass. Not gonna catch you again.”
He left and Kaminari tried to ignore the way his heart wished that he had stayed longer.
Kirishima studied him for a moment. “Dude. You have it so bad.”
“I do not,” Kaminari denied. His face flushed. “I don’t even know what you mean,” he added, turning away.
“Yeah, sure.” Kirishima patted his shoulder. “C’mon, let’s get back to the dorms. I’m sure everyone else is worried about you.”
