There was something about being in the same place, day after day practically on top of each other that just made Daniel feel a bit nostalgic.

“How have you been?” his doctor asks him after a moment.

    “Fine,” Roy responds, calmy.

He is, really. Mostly he feels numb. And tired. And his scars hurt, sure. On the whole, nothing out of the ordinary.

“Have you been experiencing any pain in the areas with scar tissue?”

Every waking moment. But it’s fine. Really.

    “Not much.”

Harris frowns. “I want to help you, you know,” he tells him.

Roy believes him. He’s so earnest, so patient with his bullshit.

“I know,” he brings himself to say. His doctor sighs heavily.

“How are things at work?” Harris asks, after a minute.

Roy has to look away, suddenly. It doesn’t take long for the numbness to wash over him again though, thankfully.

    “Fine too.”

(Or, Roy's still healing wounds, excessive work and an argument with his Lieutenant slowly take their toll on him.)

“No, I’m here until I help you get your magic back.” Fuji corrects, smiling proudly.

It’s a tad more than he tends to promise from the get-go, but there was something about this case and this man that makes Fuji want to see him at his best, that makes Fuji want to set new precedents, make miracles happen. He’s not sure how he became so convinced of this so fast, but he knows Tezuka’s a good person, with good people on his side. He deserves good things – and Fuji wants to be the one to give that to him, maybe tug that mouth into a smile for once.

Maybe it is the warm blanket of light falling outside, or Fuji’s light magic crashing in while he’s distracted, but he catches a twinkle of amber in Tezuka’s eyes. Despite Tezuka’s rigid demeanor, in this moment, his gaze seems to house a dash of tenderness, grateful and trusting, and Fuji feels his throat tighten at the sight.

(Or: Tezuka loses his magic in an accident; Fuji helps him find it again.)

    Summary

The Grim Reaper, they called him. He was the weird kid in school who knew exactly when someone’s mother was about to die. They didn’t believe him when he’d said it, and they didn’t believe him when he said he wasn’t a psychic, and they didn’t believe him when he said he didn’t cause her death.

The Grim Reaper, they still sometimes call him. Legendary trial lawyer who became known for weeding out the bad guy no one else suspected and putting them in prison. It was almost like he had a sixth sense for it. Like no one was safe from him. Like the black cloud of death still follows him around and no matter how much he tries to shake it off, it doesn’t let go.

Seokjin wonders at what point death had stopped following him around, and at what point he’d started to become death itself.

in which Seokjin can see everyone's lifespan floating above their heads, numbers steadily counting down to their deaths. the numbers never change, or so he thought.
