Summary
He stared at the screen. His body was thrumming, vibrating with a desperate, pent-up energy that made his skin feel too tight. It had been two days. Two days of Ilya saying start. Two days of Ilya saying stop. Two days of being edged until his brain felt like it was melting out of his ears. The ache in his balls was a dull, constant throb, a pressure that bordered on agony.
But it felt so good.
Two men, one secret, a decade of choosing each other in every wrong way possible.
Shane Hollander is careful, controlled, and very good at performing both. Ilya Rozanov is the one person who has ever seen through it, and the one person Shane has never been able to perform for.
What started in Vegas in 2011 has followed them through six years of rivalry, obsession, and something else neither of them has been willing to name. When Shane falls apart, will Ilya be able to put the pieces back together again? Whether what he builds from the pieces is something Shane can survive is another question entirely...

Summary
Ilya was only a few strides behind Shane on the ice.
He clocked the angle before the hit even landed; Marlow coming in too hot, too fast, shoulder high. Shane turned and slowed at the wrong moment, skates clipping, balance gone.
Impact.
The sound carried oddly through the arena, duller than boards, sharper than ice. Shane went down hard, helmet skidding, body twisting. And then it all happened at once. Skates tangled. Marlow stumbled over him as he fell, too. A skate’s blade flashed too close, too sharp.
--------------------------------
Shane's injuries during the Boston/Montreal game are much more life-threatening than in canon. Ilya's quick thinking and bone-deep instincts are the only reason he survives.

Summary
“You look terrible actually.”
“Well I am not pretty like you, this is something I must live with everyday.” Ilya retorted sleepily.
“Ilya.”
“Hmmm.” Ilya stirred as he heard his name called, and it sounded like it may not have been the first time Shane had said it.
“You actually feel like you may have a temperature.” Shane's voice hovered above him somewhere, blurry around the edges and laced with worry.
“I’m fine.” Ilya responded immediately, but his voice broke in betrayal and he knew it didn’t sound very convincing.
“You’re hot.” Shane responded, hand now pressing against Ilya’s forehead.
“Of course I am.” Ilya swatted his hand away, and tried his best to look perfectly fine. Because he was fine. Totally fine. Maybe he did just need to get up and eat something.
Shane narrowed his eyes at him. “No, you feel like you have a fever, you idiot.”

Summary
Hollander stopped dead, his eyes widening in surprise as he took in Ilya, hand paused as it hung over a stray box of oats at his feet.
The shepherd made a low whine, snapping Ilya out of his frozen state, and it seemed to do the same for Hollander as well as it booped their nose into his leg firmly, urging him to take notice.
“Hol-” Ilya finally choked out as Shane stood up abruptly, eyes glazed over in panic. With a nod at the floor, he turned and strode away, the dog trotting along diligently at his heels.
“Wait, Hollander!”
Ilya was stunned. There was no other word for it. He feels like he’d seen a ghost, and in some ways he kind of had, for Shane Hollander was very much a ghost of the past.
or
In 2014 Ilya slipped away to Russia for the summer to care for a man who was steadily forgetting everything. On the other side of the globe Shane Hollander had slipped away from the MLH and the world without a word, never to be heard from again.
In 2022 Ilya, tired and needing something different, takes up a contract with the Ottawa Centaurs. In the cereal aisle of a Loblaw supermarket, he runs into the last person he ever thought he’d see and something deep in his soul flickers alight.Bookmarked by notgoodcom
