“So, what were you thinking about earlier?”
“Oh, nothing really. Just the first time I took you out for some noodles. You remember that?”
She swallowed a mouthful of her dinner, nodding. “Yep! I spilled my bowl on the way back home, so we had to split yours.”
Phoenix’s noodles burned a little as they went down his throat. He should’ve brought some juice with him. “Ah, so you do remember that. I don’t think I was that hungry that night anyway, so maybe it's for the best that you ate most of mine.”

    Summary

Eddie made a strangled disbelieving noise, expression flickering. “You are not apologizing to me right now, for like, feeling a normal way about stuff. I can’t believe you.”

Steve pushed a shaking hand through his hair. His heart rate no longer in his ears meant he felt he could at least think a little more clearly. “Maybe it was the heat. Doesn’t always have to be something messed up, right?”

Eddie gave him a placating nod. “Sure, heat exhaustion is a helluva thing.”

It had been happening a lot recently. The… forgetting. Zonking out. Whatever. He was pretty sure he was just extra exhausted, it had been a few weeks since everything but it might have just been the adrenaline or something finally wearing off. Sometimes it was like he just forgot someone was speaking, or couldn’t remember for a moment what they’d been talking about. Like blinking out of a fog maybe.

It does not get better, in fact, it actually continues to get worse.

    Summary

Within ten hours of the police tape going up around Hawkins Public Swimming Pool, the teenagers of Hawkins begin to whisper a hushed, feverish rumor: Steve Harrington, the fallen former King of Hawkins High, has murdered his younger cousin Chrissy Cunningham, leaving nothing but water and her bloated, broken corpse behind.

And no one knows where he is now.

Though, unfortunately for Eddie Munson, he seems to be saddled with the one kid in town stupid enough to try and find out.

(Or, the obligatory role reversal AU, in which Steve becomes the man accused of murder, and Eddie still finds himself dragged through gritted teeth and clawing fingers into the madness of the truth about Hawkins, regardless. Turns out the only thing better than hunting a freak is preparing the axe for an abdicated monarch. Viva la revolution, or whatever.)

    Summary

“No one’s going to be looking for you here, if they’re even still looking. It’s safe,” Steve said.

His hand was still around Steve’s wrist, tethering him in place. His fingers were over Steve’s pulse, and Steve felt impossibly nervous all of a sudden. It was the adrenaline of the day. It was his spotty memory. That was all.

“No, I mean…is it okay with you?” Eddie said.

He didn’t need to say more. Steve was often slow on the uptake, but he could put this much together. Not long ago Steve and Eddie had barely known each other. Not long ago Eddie only knew him as that popular asshole who crashed and burned right out of high school and Steve knew Eddie as the drug dealing D&D freak who had charmed the hell out of Henderson, but somehow couldn’t charm his way to a high school diploma.

Steve swallowed, thickly. “‘Course it’s okay. I’m the one who offered,” he said
