Fon, to his left, took full advantage of the contrast the black square provided. Fon was the best of the pawns. His shoulders squared, back ramrod straight, his uniform pristine perfection without a thread out of place. His face a mask of concentration, as if he wasn't bored out of his mind by the repetitiveness of a game where nothing he did would matter. Gon tried to replicate that poise, but there was an elegance to how Fon stood that Gon, try as he might could not match.
