    Must be the gunman. “Not really,” she says. “By the time I got to them the Dogs already had him.” She thinks about it for a moment, then adds, “He’s River’s father,” just to try saying it out loud.
    Lamb, for his part, is almost reassuringly unfazed. “Yeah,” he says, sniffing. “I’d just about got there myself.”

    t’s probably the alcohol dulling the edges of his senses that makes him say it: he fidgets with his glass, running a fingernail along the etchings around the bottom, not quite able to meet her eyes, and says, “Tell me to fuck off and I’ll never mention it again, but, uh, we could. If that was– what you wanted.” 
    He risks a quick glance over at her. Louisa doesn’t tell him to fuck off, though. Louisa gives him a slow once-over, like she’s seeing him for the first time, like they hadn’t shared an office for the better part of a year.
