‘Aleksi liked watching Hannes work. There was just something about the way the witch could knit bone and flesh and sinews back together, so perfectly Aleksi couldn’t see the wound, that he couldn’t help but feel entranced by.
Some of his enjoyment was a little subdued by the Endarkened wolf. He was an ancient beast in human skin, and he prowled around the townhouse like he was hunting or bored, caged and chafing, and Aleksi couldn’t help but feel unnerved by him. He tried to avoid him as best he could, sticking to Joonas, wanting the safety of his nest anyway in the face of terrifying ancients.’

Summary
Somehow, someway Hannes has talked the Blood witches into helping heal Arde's shattered mind. As the perpetrator, Niko's there too and he's willing to do his part to heal the hurt he caused. Niko has no intention of seeking Arde out (fearful of doing more harm) but when fate and his own blindness cause them to brush up against each other Niko is consumed by guilt and doesn't know what to do.
Joel is still his greatest source of comfort and Niko's not sure what he would do without him. But when Niko seeks relief for the needs Joel's not willing to meet elsewhere (a werewolf passing through the witches' settlements), Joel's confusing angry makes Niko more unsure than ever.
