“What?”
“You didn’t…you always text me in the mornings. You didn’t today.”
A crooked smile settled on Kara’s face as she walked towards and around Lena’s desk. She crouched down in front of Lena’s chair, her warm hands settling firmly on Lena’s thighs.
“Are you telling me that the reason you’re grumpy and made life miserable for Jess and everyone else today is because you didn’t get your customary good morning baby text?”

“Who the hell are you? And what are you doing in my part of the woods?”
Kara jumped to her feet, startling the dog, and turned toward the angry voice. Based on the tone, she expected some gruff old Italian woman and she tried her best to remember the few Italian words she had learned for this trip, but when she spotted a young woman who was all sharp jaw and proud posture eying her suspiciously, all words died on her tongue.
“Um,” she stammered, her hand still scratching the dog who was sitting next to her. “I’m lost.”
The woman raised an eyebrow and scoffed. “Ah. Let me guess. American tourist out for a walk and you couldn’t read the signs for how to get back to town?”
OR
Kara is on vacation in Italy with her boyfriend Mike when she gets lost on a walk in the woods and meets a woman who lives an isolated life in the hills nearby. The woman helps Kara out of a sticky situation and the two become friends (and more?) despite some initial misunderstandings -

Not much later, Lena fell asleep on the sofa, her head resting in Kara’s lap as Kara ran her fingers through her hair. Lena snored gently and Kara couldn’t help whispering into the night, “You deserve more good days, Lena. And I’m going to do everything I can to give them to you.”

Well, that's not technically accurate… humanity's time on earth ended, a lot sooner than to be expected which is where the tragedy of it all lies, if Lena were to guess.
Not that Lena's own time on earth had ended. She was still here, pottering on, miles underground, fiddling with forgotten experiments and watching endless hours of television that she never had time for before…
