Summary
I loved the New Zealand comic strip Footrot Flats (1976-1994) when I was younger. For those who don't know it, here's the fan site: https://www.footrotflats.com/
One of the running gags in the story was how absurdly jealous the main character, "The Dog" (a border collie) was of his master's (Wallace Footrot, a farmer) main love interest, an (alleged) femme fatale known as Darlene "Cheeky" Hobson. I wasn't happy with how this was resolved in the original strip, and it made me wonder....what type of situation would force these two rivals for Wal's love to finally bury the hatchet?
And then the answer came to me from the phrase "the Shaky Isles".....

Summary
And now here Thomas is, in Peter and Beverley's house more nights than not, with a change of clothes he keeps in the dresser, on the regular rota for picking and dropping Laura off when needed, his own spot on their couch and his own bed in their home and it's wonderful, Thomas wouldn't give it up for anything, but--it's certainly unusual.
(Companion fic to sixthlight's excellent places to be, written from Nightingale's POV.)

(Or, 'in which Peter got his degree, Nightingale is retired- mostly- and David Mellenby is surprisingly active, all things considered.')
