Dean Winchester is a hell of a hunter, but everyone knows he's a little standoffish, a little cold. Until the night a young, shaggy-haired stranger saves him from a demon attack, leaving behind nothing but an alias, a funny looking blade, and a lot of questions.
Sam knows the only way to save the people he loves is to stay far away from them. He knows in the other timeline he ruined everything. This new life that Gabriel created is so much better for everyone. Even if it means he can never be Sam Winchester, can never be Dean's brother.
As events and memories start to echo across to the new timeline, Sam has to face who he really is and Dean has to choose who he becomes.

Summary
When the wall crumbles for good, Sam loses all touch on reality, and Dean soon follows suit. Without any other options, Dean consults Castiel, who proposes an extreme solution: soul bondage. Summary
When his dad comes back into the clearing with a scrawny kid he's just bought in tow, Dean isn't surprised. He knows Lilim aren't human, that they're creatures, like witches or wendigo.
But the kid that John's got by the arm, who's pulled as far away from Dean's dad as possible without actually trying to get his arm back, the kid whose eyes don't leave John and are bright with fear, the kid who looks like he hasn't eaten in a couple of days and is obviously favoring his left leg...
This kid looks an awful lot like a person. And what's more, he's the same age Sammy would have been.

A really well crafted AU. Story is complete, ending isn't rushed, brotector Dean is in full force, and even John goes for a redemption arc (but isn't just issued one, thank you author for standing your ground!). I've reread this three times, it's a good all around read!
