“How much hair do you have, Issa?” he asked her playfully as strand after long blonde strand fell into his hands like silk. Larissa always had her hair up, believing that she did her best work when she wasn’t distracted by fly-away hair in her face or down her back. Gomez had actually once suggested that she just cut it so that she didn’t even have to bother brushing it out and fixing it up every morning. But Larissa had refused, strangely proud of her hair, even if she did hide it every day.
Morticia watched her friends from across the room, her heart thawing at the sight of her best friend being so well taken care of. It was a rare moment when the worried crease between Larissa’s eyebrows smoothed over and she was simply content, and Morticia savored those moments like the last piece of cake at a party.
