“What’s better than coaxing an ornery, twitchy boy into bed?” Margo asked.

“Coaxing his roommate into my bed,” Kady said.

    “Point, Kady,” Margo said.

“I’m not doing it. I need a job. Not a Quentin. I can’t afford to take anyone out. And he said no. I’m going to be waiting tables in Jersey or—”

“Working on a goat farm. I know,” Margo said. “I know you love goats. And drama. It makes sense.” Eliot hated goats. Their eyes. They'd seen things.

Kady put her beer down with a thunk. “I’ll waive your rent for October.”

    “You’ll what now?”

“I’ll pay for your date. Waive your rent. Just get Quentin to go to grad school prom with you so Julia will go with me.”

“Jesus, Kady,” Margo drawled. “What’s this girl’s deal? Does her pussy taste like cotton candy?”

    Kady groaned. “I wouldn’t know.”

    Summary

The Monster may have been something more powerful than any god, but its body drops like a human’s, hitting the floor with a heavy finality. A golden mist rises from it - and then implodes, like a miniature dying star. Quentin can only watch in shock as Ora darts forward, checking the body - and when her wide, disbelieving eyes meet his, Quentin grits his teeth and whirls to face the man who killed the Monster.

    "What the fuck, Eliot?"

    Summary

Quentin's pretty sure that the alley he just turned down for his usual shortcut to his favorite froyo place doesn't open up onto a field. It should open up onto Thirty-First, as a matter of fact, but.

There's far too much sunlight on his face, too little noise, and the scent of people pressing in from every direction has all but vanished. The only traces of the scent of the city, of all the betas and alphas and omegas that he constantly brushes against, are lingering on his coat. Even those are quickly dissipating in the breeze that ruffles his hair, though, and Quentin takes another few steps forward, looking around in awe. He's never seen a place like this before, and the part of him that still clings to the magic of Fillory can't help but wonder if he found his own clock door.

The more practical side of him points out that it's more likely he's finally just lost it, in the face of finding his interviewer dead.

    Summary

"Oh," Eliot says, very eloquently. He's still holding a smoking gun, Julia at his elbow, Quentin and Ora staring between the two of them with twin expressions that are equal parts bewildered and horrified. Eliot can't take his gaze off the floor, where the Monster's discarded corpse once lay. "Shit," he continues.

Right on cue, the baby throws back its head and wails.

    Summary

Wednesday Night Trivia Rule 1: The person in charge of choosing the team name will rotate on a weekly basis in alphabetical order. That week’s decider can only be overruled by a unanimous vote from the rest of the team (per the March 2018 addendum).

He lets the group chat know he’s there, checks them in with the Quizmaster as To Be Perfectly Queer, (because he’s at least self-aware at this point in his life) and heads to the bar.
    And immediately runs into Eliot.
    Thankfully not literally this time.

Or: the one where no one has magic and Quentin and Eliot are just normal thirty-somethings who play on opposing Pub Trivia teams and they get to fall in love like real people dammit
