Summary
Skyblock was not a small kingdom by any means. Known as a center of trade, the docks were usually bustling with ships. Long, winding streets carved their way through the buildings for merchants to sell their goods. From the descriptions Phil's heard, the kingdom was a place full of life.
And yet, the sight that beheld him was anything but.
Rubble atop bodies, and bodies atop rubble. Fire. Dust. Smoke. He could hardly tell where the sky ended and the ground began.
An overwhelming sea of grey misery.
But still, the sight that was most prominent: blood. The stench alone was enough to make Phil mildly ill.
At the center of it all stood a man. He appeared like a statue, frozen at the heart of the ruins. His entire body was shaking, perhaps with adrenaline. Perhaps with anger.
Slowly, Phil inched forward. "Hello?" he called.
The man startled, sharply turning to look at Phil. At the sudden action, Phil braced himself for an attack—Oh.

The plane is crashing.
The realization comes to Phil about one minute before they hit the ground. He sees news reports of tragic plane crashes all the time. Hell, one of his friends has even been in one, though that one turned out to be only an emergency landing. Traveling is necessary for a sport like hockey. Almost weekly, his team boards another plane and takes a trip to their next game. Statistically, something like this was bound to happen eventually.
Phil just never expects it to happen to him.

He and Robin looked down in unison, and in tandem their eyes fell on the open canister of fear toxin leaking gas into the air. Shit. More than one, he realized, as more began to leak out, filling the room faster than Jason could properly react.
The canisters had to have been triggered remotely, which meant Scarecrow definitely had eyes on them. Good. That meant there was a way to track him down after he got out.
As he took the first step to leave the warehouse, Jason found himself glancing back over his shoulder to make sure Robin had the sense to put on his rebreather.

Tommy didn't know who his parents were. He wondered if they had abandoned him because he was different. Not in the sense that he struggled to walk and had to use a wheelchair most days, but in the way that made others feel a chill if they looked into his electric eyes. He wondered if they looked into them and saw the darkness that he possessed.
Ever since he was small, he always depicted death in his art. He could remember the foster family he was with when he realized what he saw when he looked at them was real. He saw the man behind the steering wheel, eyes of a man already gone. He saw him slumped over the wheel and bleeding from his mouth. He saw it all, glass shattered and hands that had already fallen down… he saw it all and drew it to the best of his abilities.
