This isn’t the place.”Cornelia angrily fiddles with the rope in her hands, because she can’t quite get the noose right. “I’m trying to make a statement!”
The man is silent for a moment, watching her fail to swing the rope over one of the wooden beams. His serious, liquid dark eyes seem to judge her for a fool and it almost makes Cornelia feel childish. He gazes around the space in a very collected manner before settling his intense gaze upon her flushed face. He speaks slowly, as if tasting every word. "Whoever he is, he's not here. He's not watching you. I am."

She had but two choices; put the beast out of its misery or leave it to die.
Merilinel couldn’t stab it, and yes, she tried. Pressed the pointed tip of her dagger against its hide and felt her stomach turn over. She even attempted leaving it on the banks of the Anduin, her conscience knifing her the entire walk back to the city.
She shouldn’t have saved it. Shouldn't have turned around. There was no reason to, not after what its kind had done to her and so many others during the Siege of Minas Tirith.
The unfortunate fact of the matter is, she could never let an injured animal suffer. It’s just, this animal is sentient, it speaks, and has eyes as wicked as the edge of a poisoned blade.
