Summary
When he lets him go, Daniel is out of breath and hard as a rock. He feels dazed already, but then Armand's amber eyes lock onto his and a brain fog settles over him, making him feel heavy. Thoughts swim through his head – of the last week, of the copy of Bram Stoker's Dracula he got from the library and read every night, of the Vampirella zines under his bed, the comic book fantasies, tentacles and plants and helplessness…
“You want to be a victim so bad,” Armand says, amusement and mockery in his voice in equal measure. The brain fog lifts, but Daniel still feels strangely subdued. “Do you want to be my victim, Daniel? Do you want to be powerless?”
Daniel is nodding – he never even thought the question over, he shouldn't be nodding, he shouldn't be asking for, or even assenting to, being anyone's victim, especially not a monster's – but it's too late, he's being lead into the bedroom, he's said yes… and he can't wait.
Armand positions him at the foot of the bed.
“Rest.”

He immediately trains the machete's blade at Daniel's neck.
“Hi, daddy,” Daniel says, unbothered by threats of extreme violence. “Or is it mommy? What do you call your deadbeat maker on the run?”
Armand ignores the jabs. “You shouldn't creep up on people. I could have killed you.”
“You already did,” Daniel's grin gets sharper. Angrier. “Remember?”

Daniel doesn't like how Rashid makes him feel.
He doesn't like it because it makes no sense. He doesn't want to feel this way for some kid, for some servant – scratch that, it's not that he's a servant, that's so fucking classist, that's not Daniel's problem – except it is, it is, and Daniel doesn't know why…
And it just all makes him so angry. He is too old for these feelings. He thought he was over them, that he stopped searching for… something, or someone… for what? Daniel doesn't know, and that's probably why he never found it. Or them. That person, or that feeling he was so desperately craving.
Like a forgotten memory of something he knew he loved. What he needed.

Or: Daniel used to be Armand's familiar. Now, he is a 69 year old two-time Pulitzer prize winner. In his mind, the two don't go together.
Armand would be happy to let sleeping dogs lie. Louis has other ideas.

“I'm old enough to do a lot of things,” Daniel steps in closer with a cocky little smirk. He's almost taller than Armand, but has a way of twisting his body until he's looking up at him, putting himself into a submissive role. His heart rate speeds up. Armand wonders if he's aware that it's fear, not arousal, that makes his body react this way. Daniel's mind seems to be confused on the point.
Armand leans over Daniel's shoulder, looking at the array of handkerchiefs on display. “I see that.” He can feel Daniel's breath on his neck as he reaches over and pulls at the end of one of them, tugging it out. “What is this one for?” he asks, waiving it in front of Daniel's face. It's bright orange.
The boy shrugs, his grin even wider. Satisfied. “Anything goes. If you pay enough.”
Armand raises his eyebrows. “You shouldn't give people blanket permission to do anything they want to you. Some people are monsters.”

Why doesn't he remember this? Was he asleep?
“I do a lot of suffering lately,” his own voice rasps on a sigh. Not asleep, then. “It's called growing old.”
“Is it really so bad?” again, Armand sounds… weird. Sad, tortured almost, wistful, regretful… Daniel must be imagining it.
“Right now? Yeah, it's really fucking bad.”
Silence. Daniel manages to unfreeze long enough to walk back to his couch and sit down. There is still a large chunk of the recording left. His state of the art microphone is just about picking up his laboured breathing, coming out of the speakers of his not state of the art laptop very quietly despite the volume being cranked up.

For a second, the cool air of the fan hit the skin of his neck like a balm. A shiver ran down his back and Daniel thought it was relief, from the heat, the itchiness, the stares. It was actually the beginning of the end, and Daniel just had no fucking clue.
“What is that?” The voice, his voice, broke the stillness. Cut through it. Swiftly, elegantly, leaving no bloody mess behind. Lestat sounded mocking, sharp, like he'd wanted it to hurt.
“What?” Daniel turned back around to face him; continuing to show him his back, the fragile bend of his neck, felt too dangerous.
“On your neck. What is that on your neck, Daniel?”
__________________________Years after that disastrous interview in San Francisco, Daniel Molloy is working as a music journalist in Los Angeles and is tasked with interviewing rock 'n' roll's newest enfant terrible, Lestat de Lioncourt.
It wouldn't be an issue, if it weren't for the scar on his neck. Two rows of teethmarks, the gnarly outline matching that of Lestat's husband's mouth.
A second chance encounter for Daniel. A second chance at uncovering the dangerous, dark memories he has forgotten, or been made to forget.

Right away, it sizzles and starts to smoke, but Porthos barely notices. His heart's somewhere up in his throat. Only one person would be Skyping him unannounced at nine at night, and that would be someone nine and a half hours ahead of him with an unpredictable schedule.

Summary
Athos is looking at him like he wants to eat him, and Porthos and d'Artagnan and Constance are suspiciously quiet, and Aramis is not sure about anything anymore.
He tilts his head, trying to hold onto at the very least his dignity, even as his heart starts a steady thmp-thmp-thmp in his throat. "Athos?"
Athos lifts his eyebrows, the picture of bland aristocratic interest. "Aramis?" he parrots back.
(Only the lightest spoilers for the first episode of Series 3.)
