The special warlock proof cell had many features, but heating was not one of them. What it did have in abundance were chains. An entire row of manacles long enough to strap down half a dozen warlocks, should the Cohort manage to catch that many of them.
Catarina shivered, and pulled her legs in tighter to her chest. She wished she could wrap her arms around them, to conserve at least a little body heat, but her hands were bound too tightly to the stakes in the ground on either side of her. She had a little freedom of movement, but not nearly enough to bring her hands together. The Cohort couldn’t risk their prisoners being able to work spells, after all.
She had been here for less than a day, but her muscles were already stiff and sore from the hours she had spent huddled into a shivering ball, listening to the voices outside her cell discuss her fate and make jokes about her turning blue from the cold. The Angel had certainly not blessed these Shadowhunters with an abundance of wit. Or empathy. Or anything resembling basic human decency.
