Summary
To show the full extent of the lives that are lost in a world where orogenes choose to have Guardians to control them, I decided to take the scene when Syenite appears to have her happily ever after, dial it up to ten, to show the true possibilities on Meov, and then rip it away. I wanted Syen to heal, to learn that Schaffa was wrong; that an orogene could live somewhere other than the Fulcrum, that they could have a loving family, that no one had to choose between her and their own safety. Schaffa told her that she could not live in a comm; could not have a normal life. That it would not be safe. But in that moment, Syen learns that she can, that it is possible, that she has it. And she decides to take hold of that life with both hands. She now has a life to live.
I wanted all of these things to happen, to explore the good that could have been, so that it was that much more devastating when it was ripped away. I gave Syen her best life. And then I kicked it out from under her. The higher you are the harder you fall, right?

Anyway! Syenite finally lets herself believe that she's safe in Meov, and she cries bc she and Alabaster and their child are finally safe and Alabaster holds her.
