Kuroo Tetsurō, 22 ans, bêta, comme l’intégralité de sa famille et de toutes les personnes qu’il ait rencontrées dans sa vie, se retrouve à Tokyo pour ses études : seul endroit de tout le pays où les bêtas ne constituent qu’une simple sous-population parmi d’autres. Son sexe secondaire n’ayant jamais constitué un obstacle pour lui, il se figure naïvement que de simples statistiques ne vont pas changer grand-chose à sa vie.
