Darkness clung to him, its presence suffocating when it should have brought comfort. Jin was no stranger to endless shadows, well accustomed to the absence of light, yet it never got easier; to settle down come evening. Because with nightfall came solitude - even villains needed rest - and with solitude came the noise in his head intensifying, each voice crying out louder and louder until sleep was a futile effort and his head throbbed with a fiery pain that stole his breath.
Unable to stop himself, his knuckle collided with Helena’s jaw, a sickening crack audible in the empty, silent room. The impact felt jarring, almost foreign, the edge of his white knuckle almost bruising as it throbbed. Air fled his lungs, and for a split, merciful second even the voices stopped.
A series of sad prompts written in September - hence the title - with no real reason or rhyme other than for the author to indulge in obscure crossover ships with a ton of angst and a dash of fluff.

At first Delphine couldn’t quite place the sound despite staring into the barrel of Detective Duko’s gun. It was obnoxiously loud, it whistled and echoed and then fell silent just as swiftly as it erupted. It was only when Delphine felt her lungs constricting tightly, her breath spluttering from her mouth in a choked gasp as her body crumpled harshly back against the car behind her, that her mind was able to register what had happened.

This is a new story set in the same small town AU universe as “The Barnacle” in which Sarah and Helena are lobster fishermen in Camden, Maine and the rest of the OB characters live there too. In “The Barnacle” Rachel wonders how the twins found each other and ended up in Camden. Sarah gives her the short answer in that story. Here’s the long answer because I kept wondering too. I think the story can stand alone but it would probably make more sense if you read “The Barnacle” and/or “Red Sky at Night”first. :)
