After the Bearer of the Curse chose not to burn, Lord Souls did not re-enter the cycle. Due to this, others with powerful souls had to sacrifice themselves, including Yhorm, Aldrich, Ludleth, and the Abyss Watchers. It came around to Prince Lothric, who was created for just this purpose -- but he has denied it. The First Flame has brought forth those powerful souls to burn again, but the majority have abandoned their thrones.
Now it's up to the Unkindled, who weren't good enough in their own lifetimes, to gather not only the Lords who abandoned their thrones, but also to gather Lothric. Only, it's unlikely that the instructor of Prince Lothric is going to let it be that easy, and the motives of the Bearer of the Curse, Morana, are questionable, at best.
Not to mention, there are plenty of other factions vying to end the flame, usurp it, or continue it.
The last installment of the Dark Souls trilogy, updates every Praise the Sunday!
You can read this fic first if you really want to, I try to keep them like the games where you don't HAVE to know what happened previously. I played the games backwards myself.

I started writing this to relax and brush the dust off my writing skills. I'm not editing this very much and it is incredibly self indulgent.
This will eventually be a total re-write/novelization of the first Dark Souls. It will also include heavy head cannon to connect the lore of Demon Souls through to Bloodborne. While I am trying to not change as much as possible, at the end of the day I'm writing this purely for an audience of one. That one is me.
You don't need to know anything about Demon/Dark Souls or Bloodborne or to have played any of the games in order to understand what's happening. Also, I have no plan. So if there's anything I know could be a trigger that I have not included in the tags, I'll try to warn you in the notes before the chapter that includes the particular scene with it.
