Summary
Detroit: Yuri’s done the math. He done the research and the consideration and the planning. This will be his last year of competitive figure skating, and this time next year, he’ll be moving on to grad school. No matter what, though, Yuri hopes to hold onto Victor in any way that he can. Even if he has to compromise and change his own dreams to do it.
St. Petersburg: Victor is tired of compromising. Tired of having dreams deferred, of stealing moments in the off season and after competitions to spend time with Yuri. The way he sees it, there are only two options: keep Yuri in competitive skating, or find a way to stay by Yuri’s side after this year is through. Because if there’s anything that Victor knows for certain, it’s that he’s never letting anything come between him and his soulmate ever again.
But how far are Yuri and Victor willing to go to protect the other’s dreams? And with a whole universe separating them, will a soulmate bond really be enough to hold them together when it matters most?

“Because it’s for a good cause,” Mat intoned next to him, reaching his long-fingered hand into the bowl of popcorn between them and the computer.
It was for a good cause, was the thing. Skaters Against Homelessness was running all month, ice shows and Instagram takeovers and Twitch streams, with all proceeds going to the Institute of Global Homelessness. They were three weeks in and had already raised several million dollars, and Chris and Viktor’s strip poker stream was poised to add a significant chunk to that total.

After falling into a magical lagoon during a once-in-a-lifetime eclipse, music students Viktor, Mila, and Yuri find themselves transforming into merfolk whenever they touch water... and considering that they live on the coast, that's probably going to cause some trouble. Things get even weirder when they discover strange powers that may have bigger effects on their daily lives than they could ever imagine.
Add to the mix a thalassophobic pianist, a marine biologist (possibly cryptozoologist) who might actually be completely insane, and a treasure-hunting Canadian... one thing's for sure: their lives sure just got a whole lot more interesting.

Chris watches the medal ceremony on his own, in the most remote corner of the rink he can find. There’s no TV where he settles, but he can get the livestream on his phone, and he looks at Yuri and Yuuri and JJ’s shining faces with something in his chest that smacks of bitterness.
They’ve more than earned their medals, is the thing. The top two skated amazingly well, and Leroy at least did alright, once he got over his rough start. And Chris knows he wasn’t at the top of his game, knows he didn’t give his programs the showing they deserve, knows he doesn’t deserve, this time, to be one of the top three.
But God, looking at the three who made it hurts. It hurts like a bee sting, small and sharp and entirely his own fault.

Unable to coach Yuuri himself and knowing Chris is considering retiring, Viktor asks Chris to coach Yuuri for a season. Yuuri’s skeptical about the offer, but as Chris says, he has nothing left to lose now that he’s back in Japan and has ended things with Celestino. The result is Yuuri skating to programs deliberately designed to keep Viktor’s attention. Viktor won’t know what hit him when they finally compete against each other. After all, sometimes Yuuri has no idea what’s going on.
