It’s that that finally gets Frank looking at his face again. It’s earnest as ever but there’s a cunning sparkle in his good eye as he wraps his mouth around the beer bottle and tips it up sharp to slug some down. It’s probably a calculated distraction; Frank wouldn't put it past him and fuck it, if it’s a trap, he’ll take this bait and greedily watch Cable’s long, thick neck bob in the swallows, watch the few stray drops drip down his chin at the same time. It’s absolutely planned and completely obscene and it works, it stops Frank in his tracks for a few moments so his brain doesn’t spin out yet.
Trouble is, once he’s done drinking and the dust settles, the offer catches up to him. And, oh, it’s not something he’d ever thought of in detail but watching the amber drip down Cable’s chin, settle on his blue t-shirt and sink in, well, it’s clear all that’s been calculated too.

Designed as government bioweapons to survive a nuclear winter that never came, both deal with the horror of the past in very different ways while trying to navigate the present.
As if surviving the deadliest pandemic the world had ever known, climate change and war weren't enough, now the junktownies have to deal with a series of strange happenings - inexplicable mutations, strange dreams, mysterious lights and deaths with no seeming cause. When all is revealed, our heroes' chosen family will never be the same.

It’s not that nothing about the situation pings as off. Frank hasn’t lived this long without being a paranoid motherfucker, and the slight smile playing at the corner of Cable’s mouth every time Frank so much as glances in his direction is suspicious all on its own.
Frank’s just bored and irritated, and he trusts Cable at least enough not to poison him without a good reason. So he takes the drinks and grunts his thanks and doesn’t realize exactly what he’s done until the precise moment when it wallops him like a ton of bricks.
