    The first time Cassandra speaks to Batman, it's in the language David Cain taught her. The way bodies speak is simple. Cassandra watches Bruce Wayne go, and thinks that people are not.

    She goes back to Barbara. "I want," she says, and stops. She doesn't know the words for what she wants.

    There's a story Cassandra heard once, about a boy made out of wood. He wanted something like this, too.

    Cassandra Cain becomes Batgirl. Batgirl becomes Cass Wayne. Cass isn't sure what it means, to be a person, and Batman isn't very good at teaching that. luckily Bruce has a protege or five to help her figure it out.

    This is a CLEAN version of my Batman/Cheshire (Jada Versailles) series. No swears, no smut. Little violence. Basically what you would see in a PG-13 movie.

    Cheshire started as Jade Nguyen like in the comics, but over the years she turned into Japanese Brazilian art gallery owner/ cat burglar Jada Versailles. Batman and Cheshire run into each other in Indonesia while pursuing the same criminals and then they are stuck together on a desert island. Bruce is in his mid-thirties and nearing retirement. It might be time to settle down and think about a family. But will Alfred approve of this new love interest?

    Bruce and Jada will go through a lot of trauma and comforting and recovery as the series goes on.

    January 2000. Batman and Cheshire are stuck on an island in the Banda Sea for a few days after coinciding with the same crime lords. Cheshire flirts with him heavily, but no dice. He finds out her alter ego is Jada Versailles, a Brazilian/Japanese art gallery owner. When a Brazilian project comes up at WayneTech, he pursues her as Bruce Wayne. Alfred has been hoping Bruce will settle down, since he is in his late thirties.
    Adults only. Contains smut and wit.

    “Their eyes met, although Jada could not see his pupils through his mask. He decided to act as if he had stumbled upon any friend bathing on a camping trip- no big deal. Not because he actually felt that it was no big deal, but because he thought it might annoy her. He was a little annoyed that she would stand there so brazenly, so invitingly. What kind of game was this? What, he was supposed to let his guard down just because she looked like that naked? He wasn't some amateur. Didn't she know that?! Batman kept walking. He stopped to pick up more firewood and continued on his way. He gave her the smallest smirk as he left the area of the lagoon.

    This is Jada Versailles, aka Cheshire. Originally based on Cheshire in DC Comics, but evolved into her own thing.

    Jada grows up between Brazil and Japan. In Brazil, she's overly sexualized and often feels exploited. In Japan, she has to pretend she's subservient to men and not at all sexual. Her uncle teaches her about thieving over the years. She goes to a fancy boarding school in Gotham City and then on to an elite art school. When her father dies, she drops out and opens an art gallery and also starts pursuing art illegally as Cheshire. Has a few encounters with Batman. After a few close calls, Jada decides to update her martial arts skills and goes to a retreat in Europe. Her martial arts instructor is a Romanian named Ayano Ilanescu.

    He is charming, then possessive, then controlling... will she find herself being slowly boiled alive in a pot of hot water?

    Jada and Bruce are still in Taiwan, staying at Tenzin and Annya's house. Jada just snuck into Bruce's guestroom and they kissed, but they decide they shouldn't rush into the physical part of their relationship since Jada's ex-boyfriend Ayano attacked her and almost killed her. Batman and others ended up killing Ayano.

    Jada is recovering from the trauma and slowly reconciling with Bruce. It's different this time because she knows he's Batman.
    She continues to use Buddhist meditation to feel better.

    Jada dated Bruce for four months without knowing he was Batman. Then, she was attacked by her ex and rescued. She and Bruce get back together and she starts meeting his friends... like Nightwing...

    Then, her father sent Tim to Hong Kong to manage the account there and abruptly, his presence in their lives was cut short. He receded. His things -- the razor and toothbrush he left in their bathroom, the bottles of his preferred beer in the fridge, the jacket he left slung on the couch -- were put away, shut up out of sight in anticipation for his eventual return. His voice only floated through the apartment at nights, when he and Steph had the spare few hours to traverse the difference.

    Gotham to Hong Kong was a twelve hour adjustment. Both she and Steph had grown used to glancing at the clock on the microwave and guessing what Tim was doing at that moment, on the flip side of time, at the flip side of the earth.

    Cass is in love with her housemate. Too bad Steph already has a boyfriend: Cass's beloved little brother.

    Batman has to fly to Indonesia to protect Gotham and meets a female villain who may not live up to her reputation. He ends up dating Jada, Brazilian Japanese gallery owner who also moonlights as an art thief, as Bruce Wayne. Bruce is nearing retirement as Batman. It might be time to get invested in a serious relationship. He tells her about his former ward and genuinely opens up to her. And the sex is amazing. But his schedule as Batman has him making up a lot of excuses for his disappearances. There are problems at WayneTech when an aggressor tries to ruin some big plans. Jada's past could be more of a problem than he thought.

    Chapter 6 has non-consensual sex scene. PSA: Consent can be withdrawn at any point. Victims are not to blame.

    Jada's previous relationship was abusive, but it is written about in a #metoo kind of way where the reader can examine these dynamics from a safe distance. Erotic components are fantasy and not glorification.
