She lowers her voice, inviting Qi Yan to lean in. Stupidly, against all her training, Qi Yan does.
“You see,” Jingnu whispers, lips brushing against the shell of Qi Yan’s ear. “I am the daughter of Nangong Rang.”

Nangong Jingnu catches herself on another sob, staring at Agula’s amber eyes. Suddenly, she does not feel she’s looking at a random tribesperson. She sees a steel in his gaze that can only come from one thing: royalty. Sniffling, she grasps onto the cheek she had slapped earlier so that Agula does not look away. “I-”
