Summary
“No.” Adrien didn’t shout the word; it came out quietly, but Ladybug could hear the rage building behind it. “I will not let you hurt my Ladybug.” He clenched his fists at his side. His shoulders were quivering. He looked ready to burst with energy as he slid one foot back and fell into a familiar crouch. “So long as I can do anything about it, you will never lay a hand on her.”
Hawk Moth laughed dismissively. “And what can you do about it, son?”
“Plagg—”
Ladybug’s eyes went wide and her jaw dropped. Across the room, Hawk Moth mirrored her reaction.
“—CLAWS OUT!”

Two months ago, Ladybug and Cat Noir defeated Hawk Moth with the help of their friends. Since then, the Heroes of Paris have protected their city from nothing more exciting than common criminals while training new miraculous holders and waiting to see what the future holds.
That all changes when the future sits down across the table from them and asks for their help:
Adrien and Marinette whipped around to see who had just spoken. Adrien's jaw dropped open in shock when he saw the newcomer.
"Chloe?" Marinette whispered.
"Hi, Mar," the newcomer said. "It's been so long. I need your help."
"You're from the future? Can't you ask future-us?"
"That's the thing. In my time, you're dead, and you're the problem."

Ryoku tensed her legs to leap through the window, unsheathing her sword and testing the grip. Just as she sprang, however, Viperion grabbed her shoulder and pulled her down to the ground. She tried to punch him in the chest with the hand not holding her sword, but he caught the hand easily. “What’s your problem?” she grunted, wrenching her hand out of his grip.
He put a finger to his lips and whispered, “If you do that, they will shoot you in the face.”
“And how exactly do you know they’ll do that?” she retorted, trying to push herself up.
He pulled her back down. “Because they did it. Twice.” She scoffed. “You didn’t listen the second time, either.”

“You don’t understand,” he finally said. “I can’t just go! ‘No witnesses.’”
Alya’s blood ran cold at the tone of his voice. There was no other way out of this. Marinette’s going to kill me.
Three things happened simultaneously. Nino spun around in a blur, kicked a foot up and knocked the coffee table up onto its side, and pulled the twins down behind the coffee table, crouching over them and putting himself and the table between them and the man.
Alya dropped back a step and shouted, “Trixx–”

In that time, Adrien has taken over his father's company, the Heroes of Paris have protected the city from the Headquarters in Hawk Moth's old lair, and Marinette and Adrien's relationship has grown and matured through its most difficult tests.
And last month, Adrien was almost arrested for embezzlement, thanks to the manipulation of a shadowy figure called the "Lynchpin" who has taken over the Paris underworld in Hawk Moth's absence.
Now, on the first day of "Spring Break," Agreste Fashion House has to do damage control on that almost-arrest, and the Heroes of Paris are looking for clues to their adversary's plans.

A "Mind Games"-verse "Spring Break" story
Cat Noir narrowed his eyes at the patch of darkness, dropping into a crouch as it moved. He gripped his staff tightly in both hands, holding it in front of himself in a defensive posture. The patch of darkness separated from the surrounding roof and leapt across the street separating them – a distance farther than he had ever seen anyone jump without a miraculous.
The mysterious figure bared her teeth at him. “¿Quién es? ¿Qué hace aquí? ¿Dónde encontró una milagrosa?”
Cat Noir looked at her in confusion. “Who are you?” he asked. “What did you say?”
“Si tiene una milagrosa en las Americas y no está con nosostros, Usted debe ser enemigo,” the stranger declared. “Y ¡voy a derrotarse!”

A "Mind Games"-verse "Spring Break" story
“There… are some turtles acting really weird at the zoo,” King Monkey told him. “I–” At that moment the monkeys started shrieking and rattling their cage bars. King Monkey covered his ears and winced. “Something’s got a bunch of the animals here riled up,” he shouted, racing back the way he had come.
-------
Alix rounded the corner just in time to watch a bear knock King Monkey sprawling to the ground. He landed on his chest and groaned. The bear grunted before turning around and sitting down, directly on top of King Monkey.
“What the actual hell,” she breathed, her jaw dropping in shock. King Monkey was bathed in golden light. She blinked against the sudden brightness before looking back. At first Alix thought she was seeing things, but then she realized this had to be real: King Monkey was gone, and there was Kim.

A "Mind Games"-verse "Spring Break" story
Viperion landed on one side of the raft and took a single step forward to regain his balance. At the same moment, Ryoku rematerialized on the opposite side of the raft, her sword out and pointing at the man in the middle of the raft. The raft rocked back and forth a couple times as it adjusted to their added weight, causing Ryoku to stumble once and nearly tumble off the deck.
The man in question looked around forty years old and wore a black suit coat with a grey dress shirt underneath and a black cape hanging from his shoulders. A gold eight-pointed star pendant with a red ruby set in the center hung around his neck from a black ribbon. A black-handled sword was fastened to his belt.
“Who are you?” Ryoku demanded. “Were you responsible for this fog?”
The man fell to his knees and held his hands out toward them. “Please!” he begged. “Don’t let her find me!”

A "Mind Games"-verse "Spring Break" story
"Have you seen Chloe lately? She was just going to pop in here for a minute…”
“No,” Mayor Bourgeois answered, frowning. “Actually, I haven’t seen her since she left for school yesterday morning. She said your movie night went late so she was staying at your apartment for the night. Why?”
“Oh, you know Chloe.” Sabrina laughed shrilly. Nooroo started beating his wings against her collarbone in agitation. “She’s probably just taking forever to get ready. Or else she decided to play a prank and take the express route to the ground … You know, that’s probably what it is. I’ll go check outside for her.” With that she turned on her heel and walked out of the hotel. “Max, we might have a problem here. Can you track Chloe’s phone?”
“The last location her cell phone was active was… the Agreste Fashion House building, during yesterday’s press conference. After she transformed, the signal stopped and it has not resumed. Her miraculous location tracker is also inactive, so she is not transformed.”
“So we don’t know where Chloe is,” Sabrina stated, “and no one has seen her since yesterday. And she was transformed at the time. We’ve definitely got a problem."

Marinette and the visitors were speaking quietly in English when Kagami walked in, but immediately broke off their conversation when the door closed. “Kagami!” Marinette called as Kagami walked across the entryway to meet them. “I would like you to meet–”
Marinette was cut off abruptly when a small silver blur shot out of the pile of luggage, floated up to hover in front of Kagami’s face, folded its arms, and fixed her with a glare. “All right,” the silver Kwami – it could only be a Kwami – almost shouted, “where is that stupid dragon?”

Summary
A "Mind Games"-verse story:
Chloe was walking down the sidewalk on her way back to Le Grand Paris after dark, a dog leash clutched tightly in one hand. The streetlamps cast strange shadows with the trees and trashcans and old, graffiti-covered bus stops. Bee-atrice stopped to sniff at the streetlight a few meters in from the street corner before lifting her leg to mark the spot. Impatiently, Chloe pulled her jacket around herself a little tighter against the chill in the air.
“Hey, sweetie, how ‘bout a goodnight kiss?”
Chloe froze on hearing the rasping voice coming from the dark alleyway she had just passed. The voice stirred up unpleasant memories. Memories of a Spartan white room, four concrete walls and an uncomfortable spring cot. Memories of eyeball-searing white light, hunger, and thirst. Memories of this voice threatening her and worse, of the lecherous look in the eyes of the man it belonged to.
Excellent.

“Why are you putting me and Juleka on different teams for this?” Luka asked, furrowing his brow. “After all, wouldn’t it make more sense to put us together since we already know each other’s identities? As it is, we’ll both be trying to hide our identities from our partners.”
“Are you jealous that I get to hang out with Ryoku for two weeks?” Juleka asked him, wagging her eyebrows.
A snatch of melody sprang to his mind unbidden, even as Luka gave Juleka a halfhearted glare. She grinned back unrepentantly.

Fu chuckled. “I have been everywhere,” he told them. “I started off by returning to Tibet and visiting the old temple. It was as your father described it: entirely in ruins. I pored over texts, searching for answers, and finally found something in an old Atlantean history which they had preserved. It was written in Old Atlantean, and it took months of painstaking work to translate it–”
“–We have someone who can read Atlantean now,” Marinette interrupted excitedly. Adrien poked her side and she closed her mouth, looking mildly repentant.
"I finally figured it out. I know how to wake up your mother,” Fu finished.

A “Mind Games”-verse SLD case:
The Superhero Liaison Department deals with every type of crime imaginable as it assists the Heroes of Paris by investigating superhuman criminals. Some of the time it’s a villain with a miraculous or an enormous electrical blog; other times, it’s a carjacker playing in the mud.
“We have a report of a carjacking in the 13th Arrondissement,” announced the SLD’s dispatcher.
“We’re responding to carjackings now?” Ray asked rhetorically, raising an eyebrow at Gouger from the passenger seat. “What’s the ‘super’ part?”
“The victim said that she stopped because she hit a bump in the road and thought she had run over something. She got out of the car to investigate but a sudden gust of wind knocked her to the ground. She caught a glimpse of a mound of earth beneath the car, but it disappeared as she watched. Before she knew what was happening, the car door slammed shut and the car sped off. I’m not a professional counselor, though I have some training, but Sabrina and I are safe for you to talk to about things you wouldn’t be able to share with a civilian counselor. Our goal is to help you work through and process your respective traumas and bring healing. This isn’t a simple or an easy thing – don’t place too-high expectations on yourself that you will be back to ‘normal’ by the time we’re done. There is no going back, and pretending that the trauma didn’t happen isn’t healthy. But with help, I think we can all grow together and find understanding."

A "Mind Games"-verse Anthology:
Marinette let out a breath, sighing contently as she looked around the Mansion’s dining room at all of her friends. Taking in the faces around the table, she shook her head in wonderment: everything was so different now than last year. Last Christmas no one else had been living at the Mansion, and they hadn’t known about a third of those in this room. But after the year they’d had, she couldn’t imagine trying to keep all of this together without them.
Adrien coughed. “I was just wondering… what’s your best Christmas memory?”
She smiled. “Actually, every Christmas ends up better than the one before! I think this year will be better than last – and next year will be even better still.” She placed her hand on his cheek. “After all, this year we have your Mom back; next year… who knows what next year will bring?” She wrapped her arms around him, resting her head on his chest. “I’m just happy to be sharing this Christmas with you.”

Kagami’s mother cleared her throat. “Now that you are legally of age, you will begin to work for Tsurugi as a normal part-time employee. One of your first official responsibilities will be to represent the company in Tokyo.” Her smile widened the tiniest fraction. “I am sure you will enjoy seeing your Oba and Oji again after so long away.”
Kagami nodded her acceptance. “Very well, Mother,” she agreed. Her mother relaxed her mouth slightly. “However, I have certain conditions to negotiate before signing this contract. Luka can come with me."

Ring!
Élodie sat up in bed and checked the alarm clock on her nightstand: 3:00 AM. Her alarm wouldn’t go off for another two hours. The phone rang again, more insistently this time. The phone rang yet again and she let out a breath: if Prefect Raincomprix was calling her in the middle of the night shift, it had to be important. “Carré.”
“I apologize for waking you at this hour,” Raincomprix began awkwardly. “I need you to come in.”
“Has something happened?”
“Yes,” Raincomprix answered. “There’s been a break in the missing girls case.”
“Oh?”
“We – that is to say, the Heroes of Paris – found them.”

“So with all the negativity and evil in the world,” Kim asked, “should we really be celebrating the Nazis and what they did and how they did it?”
M. Kubdel chuckled. “That is a valid point,” he admitted. “I don’t think anyone wants to see a return to Nazism.”
Nath shuddered. “That’s for sure…” he muttered.
“Absolutely not!” Lila interjected. “The Nazis were absolutely terrible! How could they have so completely taken over the hearts and minds of an entire country, as to do such terrible things?”
“Can anyone think of a reason why we should study Nazism and how it was able to gain such a following?”
Marc sighed. “‘Those who do not learn from their past are doomed to repeat it,’” he recited sullenly.
“Learning about this history is not meant to be comfortable,” M. Kubdel interjected. “However, if we do not learn our history, we cannot learn from our history. You can learn from the painful parts of your past in order to avoid them in the future. But learning about the past does not mean we are beholden to the past.”

“Whatever he thinks he’s doing, what he’s really doing is messing up our sting,” Gouger grumbled. Keying the radio button, she announced, “L-T, we’ve got a problem.”

A “Mind Games” “RooT”-verse anthology:
A large boy hid in the shadows of a filthy alleyway between two dilapidated apartment buildings. For the last two years he had moved around frequently, never staying in the same place for more than a week or so at a time, trying to stay one step ahead of CBN’s troopers.
But unfortunately, being on his own he had no news of what was happening in the larger world. Clearly something had happened two weeks ago, but what? Had they won? Had they lost? Was everyone he had ever known now dead?
The boy looked around cautiously before sneaking out to cut across the road. The street appeared deserted in both directions. He hiked his backpack up higher on his shoulder, hunched low, and prepared to sprint to the next alley. Suddenly, he heard a whistling sound in the air above him and froze, pressing himself as close against the alley wall as he possibly could. He tensed, watching the figure carefully. The figure turned her head and looked down into his alleyway, her eyes widening in surprise as they fixed on his face.
Crap.

“So…” Rose began, giving Mira a sly look, “have you thought any more about that trip to Rio for Carnival?”
Juleka frowned. “I don’t know if it’s going to happen, though,” she warned. “I was looking online the other day and I read that they’re thinking about canceling Carnival this year because of a flu outbreak.”
Kagami raised an eyebrow. “It would have to be a pretty serious flu for them to actually cancel Carnival, wouldn’t it?”
“Wait…” Mira’s eyes widened. “That’s definitely not normal.” She looked down at Paxx, who had a troubled expression. “That has to be the Bat.”
Rose cocked her head. “Why are you always so quick to jump straight to Night Bat?” she wondered.
“Because after over a millennium of it always being the Bat, Doves have learned to always assume that whatever suspicious activity is going on has to be the Bat’s work,” Mira replied curtly. “Believe me, it’s simpler that way. I need to go and stop him.”
Luka coughed pointedly. “You mean we need to go and stop him.”

A "Mind Games"-verse "Colossus Saga" SLD Case:
“Report of super-crime in progress! Eighteenth Arrondissement, Rue Lamarck, a few dozen meters south of the Rue du Chevalier de la Barre, across from Sacré-Cœur Basilica.”
Ramus flipped on the siren and lights on his patrol car and, ignoring the red light, sped through the intersection. Traffic screeched to a halt as they raced along the streets north from the Seine. “What’s the situation?” he asked tersely, his eyes scanning the street carefully. A car started to pull into the intersection just in front of him, and Ramus floored it, whipping past the startled driver even before he could slam on the brakes.
“Watch it, will you, L-T?” Wilson exclaimed, bracing himself against the passenger-side door. “It’s not like we can do anything about the crime if we’re a smear on the pavement!”
“An unknown superhuman is threatening people outside a school across from the basilica. Reports differ as far as what is superhuman about him, but they all agree that there’s some physical enhancement involved. One person said he had ‘bared teeth,’ or maybe ‘bare arms’… Local police are on-site, but they’re staying well away from him, waiting for you to arrive.”

Aurore shrugged. “I don’t know,” she told her. “I might not be a lot of fun there.”

A “Mind Games”-verse “Colossus Saga” story:
The sun had set several hours ago when Night Bat strode up to the front door of the apartment building. The end of a long, drawn-out hunt, one which had stretched over centuries.
A sign hanging on the door read “Mir Tebe” [“Peace to You”]. He scoffed, raised an eyebrow in amusement, and kicked in the door. “Demonta!” The door shattered, the black energy emanating from his foot connecting with the metal and bowing it in, pulling it off its hinges so it landed just inside the entryway. He stepped onto the caved-in door, his sword drawn, scanning the apartment for signs of life.
At the dining table sat a woman with streaks of grey in her sandy hair, the remains of a simple dinner spread out in front of her. She gasped on seeing Night Bat in her home, her eyes widening in fear. “Who–who are you?”
Night Bat sneered. “As if you do not recognize me… Olivet.”

Trees had been uprooted and thrown onto their sides, charred bushes lined the path, the flowers along the edge of the park had been trampled into the dirt. The playground at the center of the park was submerged under water, and the ground was waterlogged and spongy. The swing set had been transformed into a mangled wreck, several of the swings having been pulled off and thrown all over the park, one leg of the swing set pulled out of the ground and twisted around to face the wrong direction, leaving it lopsided and tilted toward that side. Long furrows crisscrossed the park in all directions, clumps of sod pulled up and thrown back down haphazardly.
“Any idea what happened here?” Ray asked.

“It shouldn’t be! And yet, as unbelievable – impossible – as it sounds, it is true. Every test I have run has come back inconclusive. Eighty percent of the tests I run, the equipment malfunctions; the remaining twenty the results are inconclusive. I have sent samples to everyone I can think of, and no one has had different results.”
Sabrina hummed. “What if there isn’t a biological explanation for these Beasts because they aren’t biological?” she asked. “What if they are magical in nature?”
Max frowned, clenching his fists on the lab table. “I was hoping to find more of a scientific explanation for these phenomena.”

An alarm sounded in the ceiling above Theo’s head and he flinched, his fist clenching in surprise before his brain could catch up to his body. He spun his head and stared at the source of the alert, his eyes wide. The klaxon stopped after only a minute, and Élodie’s voice came through the speaker. “Lt. Ramus needs you in the field,” she informed him, tension in her voice. “Emergency.”
Theo cocked his head in confusion, reaching for his field kit. “What is the situation that it requires me?”
“Unidentified object spotted above Paris,” she reported briskly. “ESA, RSA, and NASA had no warning that it was coming prior to the moment when it reached the atmosphere – that’s when their systems all started going haywire. Last we heard, it was too fast and too small to get any good pictures of it, but it should be on the ground within the hour. The estimated landing zone is an area of 25 square kilometers, just south of Paris.”
“Are the Heroes of Paris going to respond?”

“The Ox has not stopped,” Mr. Tremendous reported gravely. “It is in eastern Ohio, nearing Pennsylvania, and it continues to rampage largely unchecked.”
“Damage?”
“Downtown Cincinnati was largely demolished."
“And the Ox’s trajectory is…?”
He nodded. “While its true motives and objectives remain unclear, it has not changed its course. New York is indisputably its target.”
Victory frowned. “With the amount of damage that has been done to Colorado Springs, Kansas City, St. Louis… The list just continues to grow.” She let out a breath. “And on my watch, too. Above all, we cannot allow New York City to be destroyed by yet another superpowered battle – they cannot bear that cost. We must make our stand to protect the City,” she decided. “We can allow damage elsewhere, but that is where we will stop it."

A “Mind Games”-verse “Colossus Saga” story:
“Max!”
He was gone. He had been by her side through the whole ordeal of the Tarasque battle, from her first moment of panic when she felt the overwhelming terror of an entire city confronted by a Beast of mythological horror. He had shielded her. He had pulled her into a final kiss. Then he had detransformed in a flash of light, pressing his miraculous into her hands as the portal collapsed between them. He had pushed her through the closing portal. Impératrice Pourpre’s last glimpse of him had been as the Tarasque’s foot came down on top of him, sending the rubble of the destroyed student center flying in all directions. Their eyes had met, and she had felt his guilt, his grief, his fear, but also… relief?
And then nothing.
A jolt of resolve from Ladybug drew Impératrice Pourpre’s attention “We are going back.”
“Is that really the best decision?” asked Sent-Bee.
“Why wouldn’t it be?” Ladybug demanded.
Sent-Bee arched an eyebrow. “The Tarasque?”
Ladybug’s shoulders slumped. “Well…”
Impératrice Pourpre stared up at Ladybug in confusion. “Wh–what?”
“We… can’t. I’m–I’m sorry.”
Then the tears came.

Bandruí nodded. “So how can we help?”
“There is a miraculous,” Fluff squeaked. “Or there em>was a miraculous – will be a miraculous?” Sk8r Girl poked the Kwami, who lazily flipped upside down. “Oh… there is a miraculous which was hidden away but will be recovered.”
“Our hope is that between the three of you, you will be able to figure out how to get in, get past whatever protections are there, find the miraculous, and get out. We… wanted to go ourselves,” Cat Noir admitted sheepishly, glancing at Ladybug, “but we are needed here.”

Ramus’ earpiece crackled, the words distorted by interference. “Even a few minutes’ delay will allow hundreds more civilians escape!” Pegasus instructed them urgently.

“You have a better idea?” Cat Noir shot back.
“We do not need more miraculous now!” declared the Prior. “That is how we got in this mess in the first place!”
“The decision is made!” Ladybug informed him shortly.
“Could someone unify with it?” suggested one of the miraculous users.
Ladybug shook her head. “We thought about that, but it’s too risky.”
“So do we recruit a new holder from among the refugees?” asked Lupa Gris.
“I don’t know if there’s anyone here we fully trust and who would be able to pick it up in the time we have,” Cat Noir replied. “If we have to, then we can, but only if we have no other choice.”

A “Mind Games”-verse story:
Aurore had betrayed everyone and everything! All her friends had to hate her now! In February, she had leapt at the opportunity to become powerful, to be a hero, the moment it had been presented to her. Even though it had seemed perhaps too good to be true – why would anyone trust her with this kind of power? – she hadn’t stopped to question it. No; she had taken the bait hook, line, and sinker. She had thought that she was asserting herself, that she was taking back some measure of the control that had been stolen from her in the fall… but it had all been a lie. She had just been a pawn for a madman – and for the second time in less than a year!
Had she brought this on herself?
Only one person was to blame for this predicament – and he was her key to fixing this. Her mouth set in a thin line. “I’ll take him down myself.”

A "Mind Games"-verse SLD Case:
Ray furrowed his brows. “I assume the Heroes of Paris are on standby, just in case all the Lynchpin-ions happen to be there at the same time?”
“Affirmative.”
“Then why us?” Roux wondered.
Ramus scoffed. “Two reasons. The second is because the Lynchpin evidently has some sort of anti-miraculous device to keep them out. And the first…”
Ray made a face. “I can’t wait until this stupid election is over. I hate feeling like everything we do is supposed to be accompanied by the Mayor’s smiling face and stinger music!”
Finally, Prefect Raincomprix’s voice came over the radio. “You are good to go. Good luck.”

A "Mind Games"-verse story:
She was just taking out her swipe card to let them into the building when she felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand on end. Turning back the way they had come, she glanced down the street, her eyes trailing along the street and peering into the shadows around the buildings before moving up to scan the rooftops above them. A dog’s howl came from an alley a little way down from them. Movement caught her eye from the other side of the road, where a couple was walking across the darkened King’s College campus.
“Everything okay?” Felix asked softly, rubbing her shoulder blade.
Letting out a breath, Bri shrugged and pushed the door open. “Must’ve been nothing.”

A “Mind Games”-verse story:
Rinsing off the cutting board and starting to cube the potatoes, Nadine swallowed anxiously. It was nice that Lila cared for her so much. After everything that had happened, at least she didn’t have to worry about getting arrested – at least as long as nothing happened to Lila.
“God damn it,” Lila grumbled as she left her bedroom and stepped into the kitchen, grabbing a few brownies off the tray by the oven.
“I’m sorry!” Nadine yelped, her eyes widening. “Those only just came out of the oven; I should have warned you that they were hot. Or–or is it the nuts?” She gasped. “I–I forgot, you’re allergic to nuts!”
Lila rolled her eyes. “No, the brownies are fine,” she told Nadine. “It’s that moron, Andretti. He hasn’t answered a single message in the last month… and now I find out that he’s thinking about pulling a double-cross! He’s going to go out on his own and try to abandon the Lynchpin!” Her eyes narrowed dangerously. “He doesn’t realize my reach. This time, I’m not going to be so nice.”

A "Mind Games"-verse "SLD Case Report":
"Everything I have done over the last twelve years has been for the sake of the fine people of this city!”
A cheer rang out from the crowd, and Gouger had to resist the urge to roll her eyes, watching the thousand or so people who had come out for the midday political rally, trying to maintain a cool, professional demeanor. And yet, with every word she came that much closer to gagging on the saccharine politi-speak. How could these people stand it? All the politicking and doublespeak only sickened her. Gouger only wanted to serve and protect the people, not to talk about how good of a job she was doing at it. Whereas every politician she had ever met had been exactly the same. All they wanted to do was talk about how well they were helping people.
Frankly, if any of them actually cared about helping people, they would have joined the police instead.

A “Mind Games”-verse story:
CRASH!
Jalil spun around in shock. Without thinking, he grabbed Alix’s shoulder and turned his back toward the danger. Alix’s jaw dropped in shock and she tensed, ducking to look under Jalil’s arm. A long, lithe man swung through the door, spun into a tight flip, and landed, his elongated arm shrinking back to normal size as he dropped into a predatory crouch, one arm raised to strike. At that same moment, there was a tremendous BOOM, and another five men barreled inside.
“Surrender now, and maybe you won’t get hurt!” growled the first man in. His fingernails extended into sharpened claws, and he bared razor-sharp teeth. “If not…”
“Let me out!” Amun screamed in Jalil’s head.
“Don’t make this any harder for yourself than it needs to be!” The man sneered at Alix. “You’re only hurting yourself!”
Alix scoffed. “Leave my family the hell alone!” she retorted, swinging her bat at his head.

A “Mind Games”-verse story:
Her life was over. Everything had gone wrong. She had reached too high, too far, too fast, and now her empire was about to crumble around her. Those were the only thoughts running through Killer Bee’s mind as she raced away from the apartment building where she and Nadine had been living – where the Heroes of Paris had found them. Taking a quick glance behind her, she scanned the horizon for any sign of pursuit.
Lila furrowed her brows in thought, trying to still her racing heart and focus. This wasn’t a time to act without a plan. “I need resources – money, clothes. And I need people. And I need somewhere to hide.” Whatever else had gone wrong tonight, she was still Lila Rossi. She could figure this out. This didn’t have to be the end – she might rebound from this better than ever. She still had one trump card left to play – she wouldn’t need the safehouse for long, not if she could find her last trump card in time. But she couldn’t do anything if she just stayed here. Pulling out her phone, she tapped a few buttons. Finally, she transformed and raced out of the alley, sticking to the shadows on the street level and moving quickly.

“So… what can I help you two with?”
Leaning back in the plush sofa, Nath shared a look with Marc, sipping his tea, and glanced across the coffee table at their host nervously. “Do you remember me telling you about my Opa, before he passed?"
"Yes..."
“I’ve been drawing pictures based on Opa’s stories almost as long as I can remember,” Nath explained. “I’d been thinking about working them into our other comics, back when I thought they were just stories that Opa was making up. But now that I know they’re real, we want to release a comic book detailing all of the superheroes who were involved in World War II: Davidstern, der Ritter, Knightowl…”
“Your grandparents,” Marc added, glancing at Emilie.
“I want to shed light on more of the unsung heroes – like Opa,” added Nath, his stomach clenching. “Show that Paris has always had heroes: even before Ladybug and Cat Noir appeared to fight Hawk Moth, there were so many other heroes who appeared to fight the Nazis and those like them.”

“Well, where would you like to go, Mme Agreste?” asked Adrien, kissing Marinette's cheek.
Marinette furrowed her brows in thought. “Somewhere new and different, I think.”
Claire hummed. “You know,” she mused, “I do remember Paxx telling me about an old Atlantean outpost along the Mediterranean. Back when I was chasing the Bat across Libya and Tunisia. We didn’t have time to check it out then, but now…” She shrugged. “Of course, Paxx wasn’t really sure where that outpost had been, so I don’t know how we would find it.”
Marinette hummed, a calculating look in her eye. “Maybe the Kwamis don’t know where those outposts would be,” she began, “but what about Atlantis itself? Maybe they can lead us there.”

Chloe leaned forward, blinking in shock. “Hang on… blonde hair, pink streak…”
“You recognize her?”
Chloe started to nod. “She was at the hotel this morning. But what–”
The volume from the crowd rose for a moment only to die away again. Chloe’s father stared at the girl as if he had seen a ghost. Her mother blinked several times; Chloe could recognize that the smile on her face was frozen in place. The girl looked back and forth between them awkwardly before turning to Chloe’s father. The envelope shook in her hands.
The girl’s voice trembled, and she looked down at the ground. “I’m sorry. I – um – I just – I really wanted to meet my… family.”

“Turing!” Jagged Stone grinned in excitement, grabbing him by both shoulders and pulling him into a bearhug. “I can’t believe you came all the way to Frisco for my concert! That’s so rock-and-roll!” He cocked his head. “Unless you didn’t come for the concert…”
“Concert?” Turing repeated, modulating his voice slightly.
“Yeah, mate. The concert. You were at the concert, right? Why else were you at the afterparty?”
“I… was actually on a mission for the Heroes of Paris.”
“Oh…” Jagged Stone nodded in understanding. “Hey, d’you need help with that?”
“We actually finished earlier today, before the concert.”
Jagged Stone’s shoulders fell, but he suddenly grinned. “All the better! That means there’s no reason you can’t come with me tonight!”
Turing cocked his head to one side.
“I’m going out on patrol!” Jagged Stone told him, his grin widening. “I’ve got all my stuff back in the dressing room, ready to go; we’ll go and see what kind of criminals there are on this side of the Atlantic!”

A "Mind Games"-verse "SLD Case Report":
Wilson quirked an eyebrow at Marcel as the elevator rushed downward. “I can tell you have questions,” he observed.
“Just a few.”
Wilson chuckled. “So, the Superhero Liaison Department technically doesn’t exist,” he began. “Officially, we are members of the Mayoral Security Detail – we’ve actually pulled the occasional security shift on the Mayor or his family, just to keep up the appearance – good thing, too, that day the city practically caught fire! But rather than be assigned to a single precinct or arrondissement, our department operates throughout the city, pulling resources as necessary from the traditional police. We operate out of the Records Office to avoid notice – just in case the bad guys don’t know about us yet. Élodie is our dispatcher – she listens in on dispatches and emergency calls around the city for any super-criminals causing trouble.”
Marcel hummed. “I was wondering about all this cloak-and-dagger stuff.”

Summary
She’d heard stories about the metal-clad man – the Teutonic Knight. Growing up, the older members of the pack had spoken of him in hushed tones: an honorable and noble warrior, one who seemed implacable and unmoving in his convictions. What would happen this time? How many times over the centuries had the Teutonic Knight stood against and fought Lucie’s forbears? How many of them had fallen to his sword? Why should this time be any different? Why shouldn’t he attack her, the moment he found out what she was and where she came from? And yet… She swallowed back bile. He had the strength, the power to withstand the pack. And he was close. Maybe he was the one who could help her.
Unfortunately, at the moment, she didn’t exactly have many other options.
But would the Heroes of Berlin even want to help someone like her? She was nobody – at least, compared to these heroes. She and her people were outsiders. The pack had been reviled and discriminated against for a thousand years – why should it be any different today?
Yet how many other choices did she really have?

Summary
Pausing in the doorway, Gaston looked around the room nervously, eyeing the four other people present. Criminals and sociopaths; looking at the group, he honestly couldn’t pick out anyone in here who didn’t fit at least one of those categories… though there were still a couple unknowns. Two of them, he had worked with in the past – what felt like a lifetime ago. When they had agreed to jump ship all those months ago, he had assumed that he would never have to see any of these people again – at least not without drawing a target lock on them. But apparently, that was not in the cards for today. “Why did that agent bring us all here today? Now?” Glancing over at Antoine, he furrowed his brows. “Do you know what this is about?”
Antoine shook his head. “Unfortunately, I am as much in the dark as any of you,” he admitted. “I suspect that he has some sort of mission for us to go on – and not a mission the Heroes of Paris would necessarily undertake.”
“Perceptive,” came a familiar voice from the hallway. “There’s a reason we recruited you.” Without turning his head, he added. “As for the rest of you… the jury’s still out – in some cases, literally.”

A "Mind Games"-verse story:
No less than a month Nerarchos had been here, watching these Greeks, trying to understand what could have happened to the world he had known. How the shining, glittering age he had left had devolved into this. Atlantis had been destroyed – he had been there when the final battle had begun, had refused to flee from the destruction when all the others had chosen to save their own lives. Atlantis had fallen, but its people had escaped and survived. But, then, why had they not rebuilt? Why had they not reestablished a new Atlantis? How had their successors fallen so far? This Athens was the closest to a successor state that Atlantis had produced, but it had hardly a tenth of the power of Atlantis before it – a joke, in comparison to Atlantis itself. Having watched Athens for so long, it was clear to Nerarchos: they were treated as little more than a backwater, having been left far behind by the larger nations of Europe and the rest of the world.
“This is not the world that I left.”
A silky voice hummed behind him. “We are of a kind in that regard.”

“I’m curious what your impression is. Is Nadine any better now than when we got her away from Lila? I think she’s doing better… but every time I start to think that, something happens and it’s like Nadine reverts back. It’s like there’s a hurdle there that she just can’t get over.”
Sabrina hummed. “There’s something that’s holding her back, but she hasn’t actually revealed what it might be.” She pursed her lips, eyeing Mylène carefully. “What do you think it is?”
“I think it’s the Heroes of Paris,” Mylène told her immediately. “She thought she was part of the Heroes of Paris when she was helping Lila, but it turned out that she really wasn’t. Sure, we’ve welcomed her into the Heroes of Paris since then, but the only thing she’s actually done is help us arrest Lila. She’s never even gone out on patrol. Not exactly a ringing endorsement from Ladybug and Cat Noir.”
“If that’s true,” Sabrina began, “how do you want to help her?"

A "Mind Games"-verse "SLD Case Report":
“Lieutenant… Randall, is it?” The man gave Ramus a penetrating stare. “What the hell are you doing at my crime scene?”
Ramus’ eyes narrowed. “Better question. What is the Inspectorate doing at my crime scene?”
“This is our crime scene, not yours. We’re responsible for potential criminal acts of officers of the Prefecture. So get lost.”
“It’s Ramus, and you’re doing an excellent job of rooting out corruption,” he shot back. “I’m sure there aren’t any officers in the Prefecture who are taking bribes or embezzling or abusing their office. Why don’t you start with all of them?”
Aubert’s eyes narrowed, examining Ramus from top to bottom. “Don’t worry. We are.”
“What’s your interest here, anyways?” demanded Durand.
“Investigating super-criminals is my department’s responsibility,” Ramus informed her evenly. “And until I can rule out the possibility of super-criminal activity, this is my case.”
Aubert snorted. “What, do you think it was aliens or shapeshifters who did this?”
Ramus’ eyes narrowed. “I’m not discounting anything. Not until I finish my investigation. Now let me and my team do our job.”
