Summary:

Pretend you've just sat through 10 minutes of scrolling names to a semi-relevant song. Here comes the End Credit Scene!

Chapter Text

Tony strummed his fingers on the desk in front of him. He'd ordered F.R.I.D.A.Y. to make sure he had his privacy, though he doubted anyone would come to seek him out. Pepper was teleconferencing into a Stark Industries meeting in one of the conference rooms and Peter, well Tony had spent the past week since the whole body snatcher thing hovering around the kid and Tony was sure the boy would appreciate some alone time. Even now, a large part of Tony wanted to find his kid and drag him into the lab to work on something-anything-together. He'd spent the last several days worried that the whole incident would either make Tony lose the coolest, smartest teenager he'd ever met, or worried about the state of Peter's mental health considering he hadn't run for the hills already.

Tony shook himself out of his revelry and turned back to the code on the screen in front of him. He needed a distraction, and turning to one of his other outlets of paranoia may not be completely therapist-approved, but they could talk about that next session.

As it was, Tony thought he'd been doing pretty good. In the days after Ultron, he'd checked his AI's mainframe for hacking or alteration daily. After a few months he'd switched to weekly. Then bi-weekly. He'd been doing really well since they got Peter, he didn't think he'd checked since after the tower had been attacked and Peter had been kidnapped.

Still, Shuri actually had hacked F.R.I.D.A.Y., and while Tony did trust her, the paranoia alarm bells had been ringing in Tony's head ever since. The only reason why he hadn't already done a full system check was the whole mother-henning-Peter thing. Cracking his knuckles and downing a quick shot, Tony got to work. He was relieved to see that Shuri hadn't messed with much. She'd done what she needed and nothing more. Tony would be putting up even more security, but that wasn't really what he was doing at the moment. No, everything looked good, he could- wait . What was… The man looked up as he spotted an unfamiliar bit of coding, something designed to distract F.R.I.D.A.Y and hide information. It was a little clunky, but it was effective.

His heart was pounding in his chest, panic rising until one line came through. Wait, did that… did Peter do this?

The man blinked, surprise pushing down his panic for a moment. But what did Peter have to, oh . Tony grinned. Of course, what did every teenage boy want to hide from their parents. Maybe he should see exactly what the boy was doing. The man's fingers hovered over the command that would let him see what the kid had been hiding, then he paused.

He didn't really mind that the kid was having some fun online, he would be the worst kind of hypocrite if he was, but the kid couldn't just go around messing with F.R.I.D.A.Y. If he'd done something wrong or programmed anything oddly, well that could be the difference between life and death in an emergency. Sure the kid would get a strong talking to no matter what- ugh, when did he start thinking like a sitcom father- but some form of punishment was in the works as well. And of Tony remembered his teenage years correctly, there was absolutely nothing worse than embarrassment.

Grinning, the genius, billionaire, inventor, and now dad, rebooted F.R.I.D.A.Y and made his way to Peter's room. The door was open, Peter crouching by the side of the tarantula exhibit rearranging some things to give his pet a little variety. Perfect. Without pausing, Tony strolled through the open doorway. The teen looked up with a grin that quickly fell away in light of the wicked grin on Tony's face.

"So Pete, I was poking around Fry today and I found something a little interesting made by your hands." Peter instantly went white as a sheet, and Tony's grin grew even larger. Here came the embarrassed stutter.

"What do you, I mean I- I can explain-"

"Tsk, tsk, Peter" The inventor chided, pulling up the code to the hidden folder on the large screen that dominated one of the walls of Peter's room. "It's not smart to go poking around something like F.R.I.D.A.Y, especially about something like this. This is a common part of growing up. I promise, you're not watching anything that I didn't do. In fact, there was a period where it would have been difficult to watch some one that I didn't do." Ah, there was the blush. A splash of pure scarlet flashed across Peter's face.

"Wait, you think that- that that's, no I don't-"

Ah the denial, so cute, so innocent. Tony grinned wickedly. "Let's see just what you're watching."

"No!" Peter lunged forward, but Tony had already pressed the button, revealing the contents of the folder. The smirk fell off the man's face at record speed when the folder, instead of revealing what he expected, instead showed schematics and plans for new web shooters and fluid. A detailed design was laid out showing Spider-Man's new suit, with notes to the side detailing adjustment to Tony's impact-resistant material to make it work. As Tony stared at the designs and blueprints, struck dumb by such an about face, Peter at his side still blabbering impotent excuses, the voice of his AI sounded.

"I have records of footage that I believe is relevant for this information. They have been archived as unimportant, but I can pull them if you are interested."

"N-no you know, F.R.I.D.A.Y., I don't- I doubt that's relevant. I mean if it's in unimportant footage how can it-"

"Pull it." Tony commanded, and suddenly the screen was filled with scene after scene of Peter throwing on the Spider-Man suit and jumping out his window, climbing the walls, practicing his web-shooting. The video even showed him rushing out the day that he'd fought Venom.

Peter, by his side, winced. "I'm, uh, a big fan?" His voice squeaked on the last word. That was the last straw. Tony stalked out of the room, a nervous Peter at his heels.

"Fry, get everyone to the main room, that includes Pepper. 2 minutes."

"Of course Boss."

Peter could swear the feminine voice sounded smug. "Is that, uh, is that really necessary?"

"Yep." Tony said, tapping away at his tablet. He didn't say anything more until the entire team was scattered on the couches, their eyes ping-ponging between a frantic Tony, and a bashful Peter. Pepper was the last to enter, annoyance at having to leave her meeting clear on her face until she got a read of the room. Tony's head shot up as she entered, and he let out a sarcastic laugh.

"Well Pep, guess we have to give whoever was on your Avengers Orphan committee a raise, 'cause they didn't just find Peter, they found Spider-Man."

With a wave of his hand the contents of the tablet were projected onto the screen, showing Peter's schematics, pictures of him wearing the suit, and video after video of him sneaking out to be a vigilante.

The responses were… varied.

Bucky had burst out laughing, pointing at Steve as though this was the prestige of a prank that he had known about all along.

Natasha seemed similarly unsurprised. She sat on her edge of the couch with her arms crossed, a look of smug superiority on her face and amusement in her eyes.

Wanda, after a moment of stunned shock, soon began laughing as well, though hers was in surprised delight as she watched the tape.

It was difficult to say if Vision beside her was shocked or not. His face was completely impassive beyond the upward twitch of his lips and a slight quirk of his eyebrows.

Pepper had a hand over her mouth, horror-filled eyes not leaving the screen as scene after scene showed.

Sam had his face in his hands. "We're such idiots. That was so, how, just how did we not realize… just how?"

Steve was still just sitting stunned, mouth agape and mind visibly rebooting.

Rhodes had his head thrown back and was pinching the bridge of his nose in aggravation. "I was so worried about you becoming Tony, I should have realized you were already Steve." He groused.

Peter groaned and buried his face in his hands. "Oh, f-"

THE END!

PETER PARKER WILL RETURN IN A SERIES OF ONE SHOTS

Notes:

The oneshots will cover some events that take place before and after this story, scenes that I had in mind that just didn't end up fitting anywhere, and alternative scenes and scenarios that I had considered. Also, I will do my best to answer every comment that I get, so if you have any questions please feel free to ask!!!

Thank you so much to everyone who joined me in this ride! This story took a few twists and turns that I didn't expect, and I definitely expected to have written it faster, but I want to thank everyone for their patience, and I hope it was worth it. Thank you so much for sharing this story with me!
