Chapter Text
“This is stupid,” Kevin muttered.
“Not as stupid as running around as a flightless bat.”
Kevin rolled his eyes at Streber’s response. Since he had been accidentally turning into a bat more often these past few days, he finally decided to ask Streber for help in trying to control it.
And now they were in the park, in the middle of the night, taking flying lessons.
“Is this really necessary?” Kevin asked again.
“Well, your transformation seems to act as a defense mechanism.” Streber explained, looking at his notes. “But since you live in a permanent state of panic, it’s best for now to try a more efficient method of travel.”
Kevin sighed.
“Come on Kev, it’ll be easy. You just have to fly to the end of the street until you see Rick, easy!”
Kevin didn’t think it was “easy”, he had just learned how to fly from one side of the house to the other without crashing into everything. But honestly, he knew he wouldn’t get anywhere
arguing with Streber.
Sighing again, Kevin closed his eyes and tried to concentrate.
Within a few seconds, where Kevin had been was now a small bat with reddish brown fur.
Streber bent down to grab the bat, Kevin hissed at being picked up, he still hated being holded.
“Are you ready?” Kevin wasn’t, but he could only squeak, which Streber must have taken as a positive response because he launched him into the air as soon as he heard it.
Kevin quickly spread his wings and began to fly. Behind him he could hear Streber encouraging him “Well done Kev! You can do it!”
And with those last words, Kevin flew through the night.
The first few minutes weren’t bad. Kevin kept his balance and the streetlights that adorned both sides of the street created a relaxing atmosphere.
And of course, since Kevin was having a good time, something had to knock him down from above.
Kevin turned to see what had attacked him and felt his heart stop. In front of him was a colossal bat, about five feet tall, staring at him hungrily. Kevin noticed its predatory gaze and raised to the air again as fast as he could.
The other bat also spread its gigantic wings and began to chase him, Kevin was barely able to dodge its next attack as it fell down towards him.
Kevin looked around for a way out, but only saw the clusters of trees surrounding the street.
Oh, wait. That might work.
Kevin made a quick turn to the right. The other bat stumbled in mid air from his sudden change of trajectory, but quickly recovered and continued to pursue its prey.
Kevin flew into a small gap in the branches and at the last second, he closed his wings and fell through the small hole. Kevin heard a thud against the branches, presumably the bat crashing into the tree, too focused on its prey. However, he didn't turn around to check until he was several meters away.
What the hell was that? The size of that bat was unnatural, there was no way something like that could live in Arizona. How could it-
Velseb.
Kevin froze. Bob Velseb, the vampire and serial killer who bit him. Could that bat be…
Kevin had to go and warn Streber and Rick, now.

Bob just had the worst hunt of his life.
The other vampire he had accidentally transformed had gotten away from him ridiculously easily, and now he was lying on the ground with branches tangled in his hair.
“Oh dear, are you okay sir?”
Bob looked up. A woman was offering her hand to help him up when she saw him on the ground, but her expression changed from worry to fear when she saw Bob’s face.
He smiled “Well, to be honest.” Bob grabbed her arm before she could pull it away. “I could use a little help, like a little snack…”
Well, in the end the night wasn’t a complete failure.
